DeLonghi Nespresso U Issue with Coffee Going Direct to Drip Tray

Hi,

My Delonghi Nespresso "U" Pure is out of warranty by a few months and this morning it has started pouring the coffee direct into the drip tray. (It doesn't come out of the front part instead it goes direct down via the old capsules into the waste) Would this be a descaling issue or should I just buy a new machine?

What is the nespresso club like at helping with an out of warranty machine? I buy a lot of coffee from nespresso, I don't know if that makes a difference.

Thanks!

  • does it make the noise when u flip the cover?
the U is automatic so the part should move forward, cover the pod and coffee comes out, sounds like its not moving forward

    not a descaling issue

see if anything is blocking it (wait until the machine has cooled down!)

    • Same issue here and also happened just a few days after warranty expired. Nespresso asked me to pay $75 if I remember correctly to look at it. Anyway, Most likely the plastic things on the steam cover that connect to the spout that expels the coffee (http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/222039208505) broke or melted. It's a common issue, but Nespresso don't admit to it. I ended up opening my machine (see service manual http://www.19bar.eu/files/products/u%20user.pdf replacing the steam cover with a new one and all good.

      • Thanks, is it difficult to replace the part?

        • no, very easy - see how to disassemble your machine to get to that part on p.27-29 of the service manual - http://www.partmaster.co.uk/images/mediator/2752/service%20m…

        • @barguy: Thank you! Ok I pulled it apart and I can see what is wrong. The spout leans back too far when making the coffee. I can't see what is suppose to stop it from doing this. Any ideas?

Edit: Ok I can see it is the steam cover thanks. Just those damn notches that are meant to keep the flippy bit in place

  • posting if anyone else has this issue and wondering what nespresso can offer; i had the exact same thing happen last weekend on my U and it is out of warranty by several months.

i rang nespresso and was offered to either have it fixed for a flat fee of $75 which included postage and an "extended" 6 month warranty [which i assumed also covered machine for any new faults but didn't verify this], or purchase an "upgrade" at 40% off. this was a limited 'customer loyalty' offer for two weeks only from date of phone call. so a new U [without aeroccino] would then be $120'ish; i think a little cheaper than buying a new one from a store and use existing cashback offer? i don't believe you can stack this upgrade offer with the cash back offer though.

they requested i perform three steps before calling back to pursue matter. firstly they wanted me to reset the machine [did this while on phone], then they wanted me to disconnect it for some time and then finally to try descaling it. i dutifully did the steps but had a good hunch they would not fix it.

anyway my problem was also the spout becoming disconnected inside and it was an easy at home fix. coffee making has resumed.
there is a youtube video online showing the steps if anyone is unsure just from reading the manual.

    • Thats interesting. I went to Nespresso and they wanted $150 to look at it but couldn't promise it would be fixed or I could buy a new U from them for $199.

I decided to buy a new U from Binglee for $165 delivered which came with $65 coffee credit making it pretty much $100.

I could have bought the new spout but since I am making 2 or 3 coffees a day I was worried someone else would break so went for the new machine.

      • wow that is a big difference in service replies, i am surprised they did not offer you better options than they did. i guess it must come down to who you get at the time. someone else a few posts up mentions only being charged $75 as well.

at least getting another U for relatively cheap with a new warranty gives you some peace of mind. i must admit i was leaning towards the 'upgrade' over the service but as i was fortunately able to fix it i will just carry on with the one i have. positive thoughts to it lasting quite some time yet.

  • Surely under Australian Consumer law, this machine has an effective useful life greater than 2 years, and so it would be required by the manufacturer to repair at no cost.

Mine broke yesterday, 6 months out of warranty, and I have escalated the issue internally at Nespresso. No way I'm paying $75.

  • So I raised a complaint with Fair trading……
Nespresso would not budge, and said pay $75 or buy a new one for 40% off RRP.

    No thanks.

ACL says I should be entitled to a repair or refund.

    Hopefully im right.

    • How did you go with this? I'm in the same boat - same offer as well.

  • Just saw the post today, it happened to me as well, machine was 6 months out of warranty, I was offered $75 for them to have a look it or buy a new one at 40% off the RRP $199. I took up the latter offer. Don't have time to waste with them.

  • SOLVED: Just an update on this issue if anyone comes by this post. The nozzle (distributor) drips into a pivoting tray. The nozzle clip which pivots the tray will be broken, the tray won't pivot forward and empties rearward. You can buy them on eBay for about $20. There's plenty of YouTube vids on this issue also.
