Colorbond Fencing Not Lined Up

Hi all, first of all sorry for double post. I've posted this on Whirlpool but hasn't got any response.

We had our new house fenced by a contractor which I think they were licensed as they also did big projects, but the result were not very satisfactory. I'm doubting myself if they're really licensed.

Looking from inside the house, it doesn't look too bad.. My untrained eyes wouldn't notice it at a glance, but when seeing it closely, I can see that it's not straight. The ground itself is slightly sloping up toward the back of the house, so I can accept a little bit of slope on the fence.

Can the post readjusted? Dig a hole around the base and straighten them up maybe?
If I'm hiring a properly licensed fencer, how much would it cost to straighten them up?

I've tried to contact the fencer, but I doubt they will get back to me.

It's a bit hard to see it from the photo, but at least it give you some idea how bad it is.

  • looks shit-house

ask the contractor back to site and explain you are unhappy - see what reply you get

then post back with the reply

    • I'll keep trying to get to them. I will expect lots of excuses

  • I can't see any apparent issue from your photos, and I guess if you didn't raise any issue when the work was completed it might be difficult to get something done now.
I note that there is a fencing licence (!?!), they will licence anything these days, lol. But seeing as it looks like it would take a week at TAFE to qualify, I wouldn't place much store in whether the contractor was licensed or not.

FYI, putting up a fence is absolutely the simplest bit of building work imaginable, but as with anything, there will be tiny misalignments or other departures where the real world meets the diagram.
Have you tried just giving it a push to line it up to how you think it should be?

    • The posts are rock solid as they cemented to the ground already. I was thinking the only way to adjust it is by digging the ground around the cement base and readjust it.

  • That's an atrocious job. It's as if they lined it up by eye and didn't even bother with a stringline to keep it the tops of it levelled. They couldn't get the fence straight for starters, and photo 7 really shows how badly they didn't keep it level either.

I hope you haven't paid yet, I wouldn't pay a cent until I see it redone.

    • By the looks of it, they only level it by eye… I dont think they bothered with leveler

  • That's a shit job. Best way to see how crooked it is requires a ladder. Stand on it at the end of the fence and take a pic that shows the entire top rail.

    • I'll try to get more photos from the top.

  • Thanks for the comments guys. Do you think it can be adjusted or the whole thing need to be ripped and redone?

    • Should be able to be fixed up without the whole thing being removed. But at this point it isn't your problem to worry about- the fence installers stuffed up.

As has been suggested, get up on a ladder and take plenty of pics, and contact the fencing company.
