Is It Smooth Sailing with Telstra's Service from Here on out?

It seems fairly unlikely we'll see another outage, but never say never.

I personally find it hard to believe we'll see another one with another free data day, that would seem to go way beyond embarrassing glitches into full-blown incompetence.

Anyway, what do you think?

Surely they've learnt their lesson by now? No more outages and no more free days any time soon.

It seems fairly unlikely we'll see another outage

Based on what? I'd say the fact that this has now been multiple occurrences means it's fairly likely we will see another outage.

Telstra have been trying to come back to the pack in terms of price and offerings, there was bound to be some service quality drops as a result.

Wishful thinking that they have learnt their lesson, I guess.

      • Are people downvoting this because they want more outages?

Telstra has at least 16 million subscribers. That is well over 50% of the entire continent. Now, you try and compete with Droptus and Vodafail and lower your prices, the quality will drop. Back in 2011/2012 there was a big gap between what you got with T and the rest, that gap has now shrunk AND the prices have started to drop too. Then Telstra decided to give the boot to local engineers and head overseas. Something has to give. You can't have tip top quality with cheapo prices and an even cheaper back end. I wouldn't be surprised if Telstra takes another dump, I have a secondary number just in case, you should too. Doesn't mean you should stop using Telstra, they still have the greatest coverage and voice quality is excellent.

  • Is there a spike in new Telstra sign ups after a free data day ?…maybe a clever marketing ploy…think about it.

    • Definitely 1000000% not a marketing ploy.

The brand reputation done by wide-scale service outages is really bad in Telco. Every day thousands of customers have their contracts up for renewal and there's basically zero customer loyalty in telco.

Look at what Voda had to go through to rebuild their customer base after neglecting their network.

This is a result of Telstra cost-cutting to be more price competitive.

  • Tel$tra = Hellstra.

With Hellstra it's like paying first class prices for an economy seat.

    • So, like Qantas?
