7-Eleven Mobil Fuels Different to Mobil Station Fuels

I've just started using the 7-Eleven Fuel app to lock in Fuel prices. Previously I've been filling up with United's 98 product. But with Mobil now supplying fuel to 7-11 I thought I'd give it a shot given their 98 is currently sitting at 115 in Sydney.

However, on reading this http://www.exxonmobil.com.au/Australia-English/PA/products_f… it appears that 7-11 Mobil fuel has an additive and it's not entirely clear what it is… Is it actually a 98 Octane fuel or is it 95 with some additives??

Thoughts, concerns?

    Probably just the same with a few slurpees tossed in.

    Or could it be the $1 Coffee? lol

  • I think most servo's EG BP, Caltex, Shell, 7/11 etc are pretty much the same in that you get the same base fuel from the same supplier but each put their own additives in so its probably no surprise. Dont know TBH about the additives, some tuners swear by fuels from certain brands over others.

    • BP is actually the only one i know of that provides 98 as their 'base fuel' i.e. after 2 weeks it will still be "98 RON" Where as Woolworths etc have an additive to bring it up to spec. So after two weeks if you tested it again it would have probably returned to somewhere near 95.

      Source says that they put an additive in it:

      "Vortex 98 is our highest-octane grade of petrol. … This ultra-refined fuel has a uniquely formulated additive, allowing it to meet the….."

        Well I'll put a tank of BP in my car and see. Its tuned somewhat and I can monitor the engine for timing corrections thru the OBD. This will show if the fuels are indeed any different at least from a car performance perspective. Always cracks me up when people put 98 into their Camry's thinking there will be some tangible benefit :)

        • THere is when comparing to 91 RON - my partner is an autto electrician and replaced my fuel pump a few months ago because of some shitty fuel we had down here and i only ever put 98 in, woolworths or BP…

          @XCelR8: shitty fuel shouldn't take out a fuel pump unless you drive a BMW. Did you put petrol in a diesel or something?

        • @BargainKen:
          Wrong, after time given the fuel and the location where i live a build up of less than desirable fuel (from the fires we had over a few days) it can indeed cause a blockage. Im not saying this is the only reason, but definitely the finite cause at the end.

          @XCelR8:
          That doesnt make any sense at all. What does fires in your area got to do with fuel stored in underground tanks at your local servo (which are presumably from a refinery) ?

          @BargainKen:
          Wow, do you read much?
          "Im not saying this is the only reason, but definitely the finite cause at the end."

          @XCelR8:
          I can read just fine, you're not making any sense to me. At all. What does fires in your area have to do with shitty fuel in your tank?

    it would have to be 98 rated
    additives might be cleaners for your engine
    id say the fuel is legit

  • Hasn't Mobil always supplied 7-eleven?

    • Used to be caltex at one stage.
