What is Quick Charge 3.0?

Previously Quick Charge 2.0 could charge a 3500mAh battery from 0% to 60% in 30 minutes. Quick Charge 3.0 improves upon that with increased speed and effiency with their new algoritm called "Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage (INOV)". INOV lets the device continually request a power level from the charger, from 3.6V to 20V in 200mV increments. Quick Charge 2.0 only offered four charging voltages, but 3.0 offers 82 different voltage "sizes".

  • Just a quick note even though the new Nexus devices aren't officially certified for Quick Charge it will still 'rapidly' charge at 3 amps

    • +1

That's why there is a dedicated Type-C port that does 5V/3A.

  • Do you have a photo of the actual ports on the car charger?

  • Any chance of a coupon with this one? :) http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Tronsmart-Quick-Charge-3-0-33…

  • i know its expired but wasnt this a better deal?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/241231

    can you match it?

    • Different charger entirely.

      • sorry its not obvious to me, whats the diff?

        edit
oh wait its a type C

do you have the one i linked to for sale by any chance

        • That one has 2 USB QC3 ports while this one has 1 QC3 and 1 Type-C.

        • Not on sale currently. I'd have to see if I can price match.

        • +1

@Clear: thanks, that one was a great price, but i missed it

        • @Clear: any news for the price match?

        • @garylo59: No. Staff responsible for that don't work on Sundays.

Good to see this charger being bundled with usb 3.1 cable now! Although it is quite short - is 3.3ft the longest usb 3.1 type c for now? (Prefer 6ft for the car, to stretch to other side of steering wheel).

The one-star review for the cable on amazon is slightly disconcerting (cable overheating and melting, and damaging usb-c port). Hopefully that was just a faulty one…

    • +2

If it's not Benson approved, I wouldn't be touching it. These devices are too expensive to be risking to save a few bucks on the cable.

      • +1

Agreed. Let Benson give the all clear before gambling with fires on bad type c cables.

        • +2

Benson only tests A-C cables because that's where all the funky stuff happens. C-C cables are basically straight through, so no issues. The Tronsmart A-C cable was tested as OK, so assuming same standards and manufacture was used here you'd assume it's good. It just won't be tested, because it's not the kind of cable killing devices.

    • could you link me the review off amazon? I cant even find the product off amazon.

  • Any codes for cables the last one you had expired. =(

  • just wish they had AU plugs for walls :/
