Backup phone with really good battery life

Was wondering these days with my phone battery always on the edge of dying
that I would like to have a backup phone with me when hiking or on a trip just in case.

As I use my phone for navigation, music etc and so my battery runs out fairly quickly.

So do their exist still phones, just one which can make a phone call and send a message is more
then enough with a really good battery life like in the old days?

So if I charge it before I leave I can be sure it will be charged for next 5 days?

Ulephone Power is probably one such phone that can last for days, but still retain the features of a fully fledged Android powerhouse. it has a 6000 mah battery.

    Other high endurance phones include
    Asus Pegasus 5000
    Asus Zenfone Max
    Lenovo Vibe P1
    Gionee marathon
Xiaomi Redmi 3 (this is the most affordable option)

Yes even in the year 2016 we're still trying to overcome the shortcomings of a smartphone — battery usage and efficiency. So far the best idea they've had was to just make bigger batteries and make the phone a little bit bulkier, and call it a day. Of course software optimisation is also important.

but you might be better off just carrying a backup battery or a powerbank. Powerbanks are extremely cheap, if not slightly cumbersome to carry.

A spare battery is another option and is what I'd recommend if you want to travel very light.

Yeah, what you're looking for is a feature phone… dumb-phone in other words. The reason those phones lasted for days on end was because you don't typically use them the same way you would a smartphone- you don't browse the web on wifi, can't use Hangouts, don't do GPS navigation, take very few photos and some don't even have 3G connectivity.
They are very cheap at ColesWorths however most tend to be network locked.

    Nokia 3210

  • leaving a backup phone with its data off / airplane mode will improve standby heaps. And power saver modes are like standard on windows and android. But you wouldn't hit a dumbphones battery life.

    • Interestingly not really. I have a Huawei Y5. 2000 mAH battery. I only turn data on for a few minutes some days and only a few calls and text. It lasts for three days at best (and you'd better reach for the charger), less if I browse over 4G - 1hr of 4G browsing will knock 15%+ or so off the battery. If its just calls and text you could stretch to 5 days. Its not only the battery, its the chipset and screen too. And I don't max out brightness.

      • i did say you won't hit a dumbphones battery life. And you did say you get more juice. Mk

  • Slightly tangent to what you are asking, but how old is your phone's battery? It might be that it's been degraded to an extent where you might want to replace it. Also, there are few apps that causes draining on standby battery life, you might want to look into those.

That said, as everyone else have said, dumbphones are pretty much always better in battery life.

  • Depends how much you're willing to spend. For around $250 you could get a Moto G 3rd Gen. Easily has the best battery life of any phone I've owned.

  • Zte fit 4g. Listen to fm rafio for about 7 hours a day at work and still have juice for calls, texts and general web surfing and emails throughout the day.

This is the optus version the telstra version with the sd chip dont last as long.
