Motion Dash Cam (Front and Rear)

Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a good motion dash cam that captures front and rear footage.
There's many on the market and I have no experience with them. I'm looking for one at a price point <$200.

Cheers

  • By motion dash cam do you mean motion activated?

So one that records when the car is not operating but the camera detects motion?

    • Yeah I didn't know the terminology, but after reading a bit, what seems more appropriate is:

      Dual Channel with Parking Mode

      Cheers

  • I have both a cheap 720p had dual dash cam , and only recently bought a new Thinkware F750 dual channel dash cam.
Both serve their purpose but the latter cost a lot more but is worth it.

Features and build quality make the investment worthwhile.

The big thing is video quality, being good enough to make out a number plate and night time video quality are critical factors.

The Blackvue is a popular product but the Thinkware F750 offered more practical features including: speed sign detection warning, red light camera and speed camera location warnings etc.

Plus it has built in car voltage protection when used with their hardware kit will tpdisable the cameras at the nominated voltage to ensure you don't get a dead battery.

Blackvue has a similar kit but many say the voltage cut off is too low.

  • I'm also thinking about a dash cam but know nothing. How do you manage the theft side of the equation. Do you remove these and take with you when you leave the car. Kids will smash a window to grab a $2 coin some places.

  • Based on the reviews on Techmoan and other sites I purchased 0806 GPS model ($145). (Warning: Some eBay offers don't include GPS.) I have only had it for a few days but it has worked well.

Look at reviews of 2 previous models to get a better idea of how they work.

0806 is battery powered so battery may fail in extreme heat. If I was going to get non-GPS dashcam I would get G1W-CB with capacitor ($64).
