  • Excellent thanks…… been waiting on a decent drive for under 150 bucks.

Keep waiting, not a decent SSD.

      • You clearly don't know anything about SSDs then, or have stupidly high standards. Get real, these SSDs are excellent, and for the price are a no-brainer. You expecting NVMe for this price? Ridiculous.

This has to stop, there's a new lowest ever every week. My wallet cannot handle this anymore :(

    • +4

Just remembered that it's also been at this price 2 weeks ago, so equally lowest ever :)

    • +1

      I know right?

Every week this happens my bank account also reaches a new "lowest ever". :P

      • +1

That's why I use credit, balance grows and grows.

  • Wow under $150 for 480GB. Didn't think I'd see that happen so soon. Thanks lyl.

  • The store page claims it ships to Adelaide, but when I estimate shipping and tax I get this "Some of the items in your order cannot be shipped to the selected address. Please select a new address to see your estimated order total."

(The SSD is the only item in my cart.)

    • same here, I noticed I can't ship to Perth but the 240Gb version can..the difference is the seller, the 240gb is sold by Amazon directly but the 480gb is sold by MBM sales

      • +1

I just made the purchase to get it shipped to Perth. Checked out successfully !

    • I purchased one shipped to Adelaide. Not sure where you went wrong?

  • Hmm to buy or wait until it drops to its next lowest ever

    • +4

      waiting's free.

Can it be used for a desktop as well as a notebook since the post or the description doesn't say anything? As I remember typical HDDs are different from each other.

    • Can be used in anything with a SATA2 (or greater) connection.

Although I'd recommend SATA3 to get maximum throughput.

Whatever you use it in, if it's an upgrade from a HDD, the difference will be night and day.

    • Yes, you can add it to desktop using this $7 accessory: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00G57BN1M/ref=pd_aw_fbt_147_i…

      • You could just double sided tape to the bottom of the case. Alot of cases have a raised flap at the bottom for 2.5 inch drives nowadays.

      • +1

I just use bluetack or some velcro strips. your desktop never moves from it's spot anyway, so it doesn't have to be screwed into anything.

        • Not mechanical so don't have to worry about vibrations :)

      • I just put it into the bottom slot and screwed the screws in on one side. My case is rack mounted so it's not going anywhere, and the drive only weighs about 50g anyway.

  • That an awesome price, thx op

  • +2

Great post OP, holding out to upgrade the lappy 120gb SSD, this will do nicely (p.s. same shipping cost to Tokyo if anyone cares which I assume you don't!)

  • Time to put these into raid 0

  • +2

How many SSDs do you own now lyl?

    • +1

      0, still waiting :(

  • I assume this would work with my 2009 iMac? It's a sata2 connection so I don't see why not right?

Some people said for macs don't get an SSD with trim for some reason. Not sure if this does or doesn't :)

    • +1

Macs, Pc's, all use the same interconnects and sata standards for storage, you don't need to worry about compatibility. SATA2 == SATA3 is cross compatible.

You just won't be able to enjoy it's full 6gbs speed, but very likely you won't see a difference in everyday useage anyway.

    • Don't worry too much about Trim, OS X 10.10.4 and above support Trim

simply type in "sudo trimforce enable"
      without the " "

      • Without the quotes, not the space.

  • Between these cheap amazon deals and the Kogan 20% ebay sale my new PC is coming together nicely…Slow but nice.

I am using the same SSD right now. Bought it for around $200 couple of months back. I really can't tell the difference between my Samsung and this Sandisk. I run multiple VM from it concurrently. The VM do not do intensive I/O, but they boot quickly and run smooth. No complaints with the drive.

    • +8

The difference is benchmarks and online pissing contests :)

  • This price is insane! Good find OP :)

  • I was contemplating replacing the seagate momentus 7200.4 in my Lenovo E520 with this one … but since existing seagate drive is SATA this SSD may not be suitable (as comments above mention SATA2+) ?

    • +1

      It will work. E520 SATA3.

      • Thanks. Propped open the laptop cover to discover it's SATA 3Gb/s which is actually SATA II. So took a punt and bought. Picked up a USB to SATA III cable too.

  • How do these compare to other 480G/500G SSDs on the market?

    • Benchmarks, probably slower. Real life performance most likely nothing unless you're time critical for every extra second

  • +4

Seems to have gone back up to $117 USD

    • Confirmed. It is $117 USD with my account as well.

    • Amazon have sold out. It's reverted to a different seller.

      • aww too late

  • +1

No offense but sandisk ssd's have never been known for their reliability like you claim in the description. In fact they're one of the least reliable with drive crashes galore. Comparable to the early days of Kingston, i mean sure sandisk hasnt been making consumer desktop drives as such for very long but i still dont think its right to call these one of the best when it really obviously isnt. It is a good deal however for a 480gb ssd, too bad it seems to be sold out from the comments above.

  • Worthwhile holding out for Ultra II imo. they "should" be higher quality
