I'm guessing this is points only - not status credits?

    • +2

      Would've been nice.

Thanks, although it's a bit of a shame about the short eligibility period, must book before midnight 5th April. At least the flight eligibility is good for 12 months.

Shame it's not status credits. I did very well out of their last Aquire Status credit deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/232363. 29 days into my new membership year and already halfway to retaining plat :)

  • Do Qantas points expire? I'm tempted to sign up but I don't travel enough for it.

How many flights do you typically need to redeem something cool?

    • +1

Points expire 18 months after the last account activity, excluding family transfers.

      • I wonder if 'account activity' includes QFF points earned from flying with JetStar?

        • +1

I'd imagine it would. It includes points earned with credit cards.

        • +1

It sure does. Other quick ways include using the QFF search toolbar or shopping though the Qantas online mall portal, for say, an eBay purchase.

  • Darn…. just booked flights over the weekend..

    • likewise, but booked via bestjet. Lower price paid through bestjet > bonus FF points.

      • This offer isn't conditional on booking through qantas.com, so… yeah you may have missed out. :P

        • Dammit, yep, read the T&C… Can be booked through 'travel agent'
          Oh well.

    • in the same boat. booked with qantas over the weekend. DAMN IT.

    • Same here :/
      Could've netted an extra 3200 points…

    FYI, Virgin equivalent

    https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/content/Promotions/nz-…

Seems like you don't need to book within a period, only fly within a period.

    1. Activate this offer;
    2. Book an eligible Virgin Australia or Air New Zealand flight by 29 March 2016; and
    3. Travel between 1 April and 23 September 2016.
    • Gotta book by 29/03/16…. seems like there's a booking period.

      • i booked my flights for this year some time in jan16.

i meant booking period as in, you dont need to have booked it within x and y.

any booking up until 29mar16 earns double points

          First line of the T&Cs
"To be eligible for double Velocity Points, you must successfully activate the offer online between 12.01am AEST 15 March 2016 and 11.59pm AEST 29 March 2016 inclusive (‘Promotion Period’). During the Promotion Period you must also book an eligible flight and enter your Velocity membership number, ensuring it matches the number you have activated online."

Seems like a booking period to me.

  • Can you book Qantas/Emirates flights but with another website like BestJet?

    • You can use another website to book, but flights operated by Emirates won't be eligible.

      • the reason i said qantas/emirates is because most flights that show up as 'qantas' somehow and then end up on a emirates leg to dubai on the day (even though it showed say MEL - DUBAI on the booking page), then emirates again onto a european destination. must be certain flight codes i assume.

        • The flight number is a giveaway even if you aren't booking through Qantas.com — flights that fall within the QF8000 - QF8999 flight number range are all operated by Emirates.

If you're booked on a QF operated flight that'd otherwise be eligible for the bonus and you're involuntarily rerouted to an Emirates flight, I'd suggest claiming the flight you were booked on through Qantas.com a couple of days after your flight. If that doesn't work, or the bonus points don't appear after 6 weeks, contact QFF. And keep copies of your boarding passes (just in case).

  • I m wondering if double points apply to china sourthern flights which booked via Qantas website? thanks!

    • +1

if only with QF flight numbers.

    • To be eligible, the flight must be operated by Qantas, or be QF309/QF310 or QF3225/QF3226 (both are operated by AA).

      • I see, looks like china sourthern flight wont be eligible even it comes with QF flight number.
        Thanks anyway!

  • If you've booked flights already during the travel period then activate the offer I'm assuming you won't get the bonus points?

  • Assuming that the double points don't apply when booking through third party?

    • +1

T&Cs say: Flights can be booked via qantas.com, a travel agent or Qantas Contact Centres.

So looks like 3rd party is all good.

      • Thanks for the response.

Just to clarify, not sure if you know, but, does this also include overseas booking agents? I am about to book through www.cheapoair.com

        • +1

I would think so given they are a travel agent. I booked a return flight through cheapoair one time and they issued the booking receipt, however the next day they sent me an email cancelling my booking, so I now avoid them.

        • @lecheapo:

I've used them several times and never had issues… maybe the carrier was the issue thus why they cancelled your booking

    • the terms say you can use a travel agent.

So, yes, register and then book with flight centre using the gift card offer

  • +1

Just as an FYI, as it isn't in the OP: to be eligible, the flight must be operated by Qantas, or be QF309/QF310 or QF3225/QF3226 (both are operated by AA).

    From the conditions:

This bonus offer is valid when you register and make a new booking on eligible Qantas operated flights with a QF flight number on >your ticket, plus selected QF codeshare flights including American Airlines operated flights on the following routes; Sydney to Los >Angeles (QF309), Los Angeles to Sydney (QF310), Auckland to Los Angeles (QF3225) and Los Angeles to Auckland (QF3226).

  • I have already registered for the double points and are about to book my flight. But during the booking process it only shows Ill earn normal points. Does anyone know if this is normal (and I will get double points) or I am supposed to see double during checkout.

    • From the T&Cs: Bonus Qantas Points may take up to 6 weeks after completion of your travel to be credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account.

    • Yep, normal - the booking engine doesn't know anything about these offers, and they're credited specially after the travel.

  • Looking at flying LHR-KUL return this September. Booking through QF, curiously only the flights on QF metal earn double points, not the Emirates legs between DXB & KUL which are still on QF flight numbers. A little disappointing.
