2 weeks in London

I had originally planned to go to Scotland as well but I think London-Chester-Hay-Liverpool will be more than enough for such a short trip.

When is the cheapest time to fly to London? Would appreciate any ozbargainer tips or experiences!

  • This is Australia. So the answer to your question:

When is the cheapest time to fly to London?

    is never.

    :(

  • I'd Say Beginning of March-Beginning of May and September/October?

IIRC this is the time period when most of the sales were on, when I was looking for a flight in June/July.

Just do a quick search on this website to see sales for london and mark the most common times.

You should visit the Scotland highlands, amazing. I just came back from there 3 days ago.
    Flights are cheap now.

I'd be considering whether you really want the cheapest. If you go over and its wet and cold will you enjoy saving $500-1000?
Personally I'd rather spend a little more and go at a time of year that lets me enjoy the best of my holiday destinations.

  • Two weeks in London + nore time in the Uk or two weeks in the UK?
Two weeks I would say is heaps of time in London.

    • I think OP said London, Chester, Hay and Liverpool.
Two weeks will not be too long for this itinery.

  • Hey, thanks for the replies guys.

Yeah, I've been told that the cheap season is ending soon…but is it true that it gets cheap again around December because no one wants to go to the UK when it's cold?
True, the winter weather might not allow me to enjoy the best of my holiday destinations…but on the bright side, it'd be my first white Christmas!

I'd LOVE to go to Scotland (Isle of Skyle looks GORGEOUS) but as this is my first solo trip, it might be a bit stressful going from one end of the UK to the other. I think Scotland deserves its own trip anyway…someday soon. :) Besides, it's best in the Summer, apparently.

You have to also remember it gets dark early in December, like before 5pm early. You're also by no means guaranteed a white Christmas, more a grey Christmas.

I would definitely try to go shoulder season rather than off season. You can go in April/May and even start of June with quite reasonable prices.

An example would be flying Scoot to Singapore June 9th for $230 or $270 with checked luggage and then booking a multi city flight with Qatar leaving June 10th 2am Singapore to London then return London to Sydney for $1165 on June 23rd.

  • Hey @Cheese86 I'm living in London at the moment and have had people visit from Oz all throughout the year. More recently though my friends visited in August and were able to get their flights for $1300 with Royal Brunei return from Melbourne. Royal Brunei seem to have a decent sale to/from Europe every 2-3 months. I've also managed to get cheap flights with Etihad and Qatar for a similar price.

Just pick a time of year thats good for you - keep in mind that whilst Winter may be cheaper, there are some attractions that may not be open during these times, and if the weather is pretty horrible, especially in the north of England it may screw up your plans (trains and planes often get delays/cancelled). So I'd receommend coming slightly outside of peak around April or September if you want to save a little bit of money but also have OK weather

    Good luck :)

    • Dry flight tho …

    Hi Cheese86,

Not sure if you saw this recent deal, you can get, for example:

May 10 - May 25 Kul -> Lon return for MYR 1332 (approx AUD 440).
You should be able to add a return fare with AirAsia to KUL for a few hundred.

Which makes it a very good deal for return trip to London during fairly high season.

There are a few dates to select from in April and May.

  • I've travelled to London 4 times and have also done a tour of the UK. Scotland and Wales was beautiful. It took 4 weeks though.

I think best price is on STA Travel. Return from Sydney to London is approximately $2,050 in September including taxes at the moment.

2 weeks won't be long enough I think, especially if you want to see things properly. Although, I know the longer you stay, the more it will cost you.

I've also been to Ireland 3 times and it's gorgeous there too.

I would love to live in London. I love the cold weather!
