      what would the brand Signify?

      • yeh brand means nothing it will have at least 12 months warranty anyway

        • brand is "Signify"

A lot of these cheap ones have poor voltage regulation and safety mechanisms.

Aldi pretty much just rebrand whatever they can get their hand on.

Spend a couple more and get a Xiaomi, at least you know what you are getting.

        • -2

Yeah because Xiaomi is a beacon of good values and quality. 😂

@Jesmond: They really do make excellent power banks. It's been discussed here many times in the past. They were probably the first company to sell a high-quality power bank at low prices.

Aldi pretty much just rebrand whatever they can get their hand on.

In my experience, most of the electronics stuff Aldi sells is high quality as far as cheap Chinese crap goes. It makes sense that both Aldi and the suppliers would have good QC, they have a very lenient return policy and their suppliers are the ones eating the customer support and warranty costs.

        • +1

@Jesmond: My experience with many Xiaomi products has been great.

        • @lbft: Been buying/returning Aldi stuff a while now, trying to be unbiased but with aldi electronics, YMMV.

          @BargainKen:

          Your Mother's Maiden Voyage?

        • @gsxo: sure why not

        • @Jesmond:

This is a prime example of ignorance.

Many new smart phones need high current. Some cheap chargers only put out 1Amp, which can make for very slow charging, but better than nothing. The description doesn't say what current it supports. That said, with Aldi's 60 day return policy, it's always worth a shot and if doesn't work out, no loss.

Alibaba is being helpful and saying 1A/2A each and 3.1A total.

      • +2

        Alibaba needs a math lesson!

.or maybe Alibaba needs a physics lessons instead!

Do you then say "If this explodes in my face, al-di!"

…sorry, I'll get my coat now!

Hmm… would like some sort of review. Xiaomi be ok if you can buy it from a physical store in Oz… some people hate waiting on shipping.

This would appear to be the exact same item.

It's China, so there could easily be more than one supplier selling an externally identical product because someone cloned someone else and then cheaped out on the guts, or there could be one company making the plastic cases and then different companies stuffing different batteries and electronics inside.

  • 12Ah at a nominal 3.7V [for standard li-ion chemistry] would suggest UP TO 44Wh capacity for recharging purposes.
Somewhat less in practice, allowing for discharging losses - particularly at faster rates.

A retail price under $600/kWh is good value - but I would be concerned about capacity retention over time?

My recent purchase of a Power Bank from ALDI suggesting a monthly top up.
NOT the case with my eneloops :-)

Full cycle charge/discharge efficiency may not be of particular importance - but cycle life & capacity retention, OVER TIME, certainly are of interest.
    Think eneloops ;-)

A pack of 6 robust 2Ah 18650 cells might, although heavier, be preferable to 4 3Ah cells.

products like this are dangerous, not manufactured to safety standards. Plenty of power banks explode and catch fire, i wouldnt risk it. chk youtube

    • +2

If this is being sold by a big chain like Aldi in Australia, you would have to presume that it passes Australian safety standards, unlike something you buy online from overseas

      • -1

Protons are still being driven in Australia…please explain

        • +1

Sorry, dont know much about Malaysian cars. Maybe you can explain further.

    • +2

How do you know this product is not manufactured to safety standards?

      • Easily - there are no Australian Safety Standards for this kind of product.

        • +1

I never said Australian safety standards.

Products like this are used to recharge products that have the same kinds of lithium cells inside them.

Beware of all battery powered devices, I wouldn't risk it. Check Youtube!

I have a xiaomi 10400 power bank. it recharges faster than wall charger.
I paid 16 dollars offered when I buy something else. It works GREAT!!!
Highly recommend xiaomi one but not this one.

  • USB C?

Just went to Aldi, to find there was none of these in sight.
Turns out they recalled them all coz of some fault. :(

    • +1

Same! Bit annoyed but at least I didn't just turn up for them. Guy said they may be in stock later this week but he was unsure.
      Said certain batches weren't charging.

Talked to a friend who works at Aldi. These caught alight when tested. Says he doesn't know if or when they are coming back in.

    • +1

What does your friend do at Aldi?
Aldi tests every product they sell?

      • +1

        Store manager.

There were some tests done not sure if it was tests by aldi or manufacturer tests.
