Just purchased a Scoopon Deal, and cannot redeem it... now what?

Hi folks,

I literally just purchased 2 scoopon deals for Thai food in Sydney.
Did not check the expiry date, and they expire before I get to Sydney.
I know that this is my fault because I did not check the dates, but since I bought them 5 minutes ago and the funds have not cleared through Paypal yet, is there anything I can do?

Cheers :)

Why not contact them immediately? You have nothing to lose.

    • Done now, thanks :)

      • Do you know the outcome yet? Or have you just emailed?
Hope they show some goodwill, after all it is good business practice, to retain the customer base.

No reply yet, I hope so too, considering it was an honest mistake picked up literally seconds too late :/

        • Hmmmm, and I wont get a reply until Tuesday now, I picked a fine time to eff up lol

The ozbargain forum equivalent of ITs "have you tried turning it on and off?"

  • They would've probably cleared by the time you've read this comment. Nonetheless, PayPal will recoup those funds from either your registered credit card, debit card, PayPal balance or linked bank account. If the vouchers become invalid through no fault of Scoopon or the participating retailer, then unfortunately you'd be out of pocket for those.

    • Can I claim a chargeback (or whatever it's called) through Paypal?

You could do a chargeback but that'd have to be through your bank, not PayPal. Nonetheless, you'd have to explain to your bank why you want a chargeback, and the reason that you've outlined above probably wouldn't be accepted by the bank.

The same notion would run true with opening a PayPal dispute. I suppose you could always try that, because you've got nothing to lose by opening a PayPal dispute (whereas claiming a bank chargeback on these reasons would be borderline fraud). The worst that could happen is that PayPal says no to your refund request, and you wouldn't be any more out of pocket than now.

To be honest, Scoopon is absolutely elated that they got some bucks out of CryssieJade and unless you can prove that they or their partnered restaurant is at fault, you'd have to get your hard earned back from their cold, dead hands.

Have you tried advertising then on Gumtree? There's a market for unused group vouchers on there.

        • I mean, we are only talking $12 here, but I am counting dollars at the moment (aren't we all, on Ozbargain? Haha)

I bought vouchers from Groupon too (checked the dates this time!!) And they list a 7 working day refund policy. Not sure if I would use Scoopon again, tbh

Thanks for your suggestions, but depending on the outcome, will just hand them to good friends in Sydney!!

Send them to friends or family in Sydney and see if they will give you back part of the purchase cost.

      HI FRIEND!

      send to me :P

    • Yup, I will be sending to my friends if I can't get a refund or store credit…just don't want them going to waste!!

UPDATE: Just got a reply from Scoopon and they have given me a credit and cancelled my vouchers. Hooray!!

    • Good news. Next time you have issues, contact the merchant first then make a forum post if things don't go right.

    • Great! I am happy for you :-)
