Cheapest places to buy Nappies

New dad here and loyal oz bargainer. Which means I'm now on the lookout for nappy bargains.

Has anyone done any research in to Coles vs woollies vs Costco vs baby stores for consistently lowest nappy prices? And who has the best sales on nappies that I should keep an eye out for?

I'm specifically talking about Huggies brand.

Any help appreciated.

  • I'm specifically talking about Huggies brand.

WA here, so no Aldi (yet) or Costco. But actually based off your comment, can I ask why? They used to be the go-to for nappies, sure, but I'd actually encourage you to have a look at Babylove. Constantly $27 for a box, if not cheaper, and the quality is the same.

    Give them a try :)

Coles brand are good if you need to just grab a cheapie packet as well, good bang-for-buck on those.

We use to only buy huggies till we tried the coles brand in my opinion they are just as good but alot cheaper $11 vs @ $30

I set up an alert on ozbargain for the keyword 'huggies' and now I get an email each time they go on special (or people post about them, like you!).

Has saved me hundreds of dollars :)

Congrats on being a new dad!

From my experience, cheapest for Huggies is the 2 for 50$ sale, Coles and Woolies alternatively. Costco Huggies are not as cheap as the sale.
However, what we do is to "Huggies" our baby when he is out/has not pooped for a long time and use cheaper brands (Coles/Aldi/Woolies) just after a poo or when he's indoors. This way you use at least 30% cheap nappies, it saves a lot.

  • I know you are asking about huggies but give snugglers or comfy bots a go. Both cheap and very very good

  • Off topic but I read that there was this vegan mum who used cloth nappies and rewashed them each time. Definitely sounds like the cheapest method.

    • We tried that too, but it takes A LOT of time and A LOT of water…

You can buy very nice quality resusable nappies, you will still save money even if you use reusable at home and disposables when you're out.

Cheapest is supermarkets on special at about 23 to 25. Otherwise big w had specials at 3 jumbo box for 70. Comes up every few months.

When on special you can buy a lot and stock up. You can exchange for different size at the supermarkets later on with no receipt. I have done this many times

Also buy wish gift cards to save extra 5%.

Once your baby doesn't poop every nappy of changes to once a day then good idea to give supermarket brands a try during the day and huggies at night.

    • Last year woolworths online use to have lots of coupons posted here, eg $10 off $50 spend and you could stack several coupons in the same cart.

I once ended up buying them for around $12/box.

The coupons don't seem to be as common now - maybe they just have targeted offers for rewards members now.

edit: spoke too soon - I see there's a $10 off $100 coupon posted on the right.

  • +1 for BabyLove
    +1 for Aldi's mamia brand.

I would say they are superior to Huggies … haven't tried the Coles homebrand.

Costco's every day price is slightly cheaper than Woolworths/Coles RRP. The key is to never buy at RRP and look for the promotions…

  • I'll give the other brands a go. My sister in law said Aldi were prone to leaks when she tried hem. Didn't know Coles had their own brand….

Anyone bought any from Costco? Curious if cheaper there.

    • we only used Huggies as other were not as good, our son would have rashes etc with others plus Huggies were the only with elastic sides easy tape that you can restick BUT that was 17 years ago.
I am sure other brands are a lot better now, I would buy a few different brands until you find ones you like, dont waste too mauch money on nappies.

    • Our Aldi leaked too. Similar quality to Woolies.

  • Aldi was prone to leaks so we moved to Comfy Bots at Coles. Said that the newborn from Aldi are excellent. And after that Comfy bots for beyond newborn.

  • The Kirkland brand from Costco is useless, baby's pee always soaked through them. We were given several bulk boxes from a friend who got them from Costco and we were forced to change them every two hours or less to avoid the problem. It was interesting because when they had their baby, they were loyal to Costco and got Kirkland also. They mentioned they had the same problem and so we confessed it happened to us also and we all had a laugh about it.

Coles are the cheapest and most reliable in my experience.

  • Woolworths Select -" Once Upon a time" are very good and cheap as compared to other known brands. Sometimes they are on special and so even cheaper.
The box says Made in USA

  • Current sale on Huggies @ Costco (18$ less)
    Till 11 April

  • Oh, well! Thank you for this information! We need to develop more such questions, and to revive a small business.

  • i just stock up during sale at woolies or coles
