My sister needs a new (to her) phone for around $250 (battery on her current phone is shot, budget is student) in about a week. She's on Boost so Telstra locked is okay. The phone needs a hdpi (240ppi or better) screen, and run at least Kitkat. It would be better if she can buy it in person so she can see/touch the phone and get it quickly, but the really key thing is the 240ppi screen to run the one app she can't live without*.
My first instinct was to try and find a second-hand Galaxy S3, but I'm not sure how the batteries on those are holding up these days.
Any recommendations? I think the Samsung Galaxy A3 might just squeak in?
*The ppi restriction is in the apk manifest, yeah I know stupid dev but what can you do?
Anything with a 720p 5" screen meets that specification, so it's a pretty mid-range requirement these days.
MotoG is the obvious local standout although stretches the budget even on sale
Oppo F1 or R7 if you can find one in a DSE
ZTE Blade S6 from Officeworks or JB
Otherwise import a Chinadroid..
eg
Redmi Note 3
Doogee F5
