Thanks . This is exactly what I need . Live tracking .Just needs to be 3G.
Someone else around here uses and recommended http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/3G-Vehicle-Car-Caravan-Tracker-LI… and an ALDI $5 Sim

I'll take a look at these devices. It's an old classic car so I may have to cut the plugs to make it work
Cheap android phone permanently wired to battery? I have a phone with tasker installed. Sms it, and it will automatically reply with GPS location.

very pricey though. There are much cheaper ones on ebay.
ADDENDUM
many GPs tracking units rely on a SIM card to transmit location information and to receive commands. They typically use the standard 2G GSM mobile network to operate — they send and receive SMS commands to a central server.
That's all well and good… but 2G networks are obsolete nowadays and you realistically have around 1 or 1.5 years before Australian telcos completely shut down 2G. Telstra in December, Optus in April.
You might have to look specifically for one that uses 3G.
