MSI GE62 6QF 15.6" Apache Pro Gaming Notebook $1759.20 @ Kogan eBay

CKOGAN20

Original CKOGAN20 20% off post

Been eyeing off one of these for a while but Kogan removed it during the previous 20% only to re-add stock after the sale expired, so I ended up with something else, this time though it seems to be staying for the time being. The regular RRP almost everywhere else is $2199 with very little fluctuation so its quite the saving. If you are in need of a high end notebook that has support for NVMe M.2 and Usb 3.1 then this a pretty great deal at $1759.20.

  • Looks good, the only detail I would want is to know its an IPS screen, makes such a difference.
Shame they cant add a small (120gb) SSD for the OS, the HDD will make a fast machine feel slow (esp in games like FO4 with frequent loads when entering / existing buildings).

  • Other retailers such as msy are listing it is 15.6” IPS FHD(1920x1080) so unless there information is incorrect this model is carrying the ips panel a couple of review threads list it has having the LGD046F panel.

Sure I understand it doesn't include an SSD, you are probably better off grabbing a SSD deal and throwing it in. If you want to go all out grab the m.2 Samsung 950 256 GB @ kogan $211.2 otherwise just a cheaper m.2 sata drive (supports both m.2 NVMe and m.2 sata) or a standard 2.5" sata 3 SSD you will still be below its RRP either way and will probably struggle do find a Notebook with a comparable price and these specs

  • I have one with a 3k screen. The 3k screen is very nice.
If I had to choose again, I would pick the ghost version. This version are very heavy and bulky.

  • Just picked up MSI GS60 6QE 15.6" Ghost Pro Gaming Notebook (GS60 6QE-015AU) with $500 off. Thanks for the heads up.

  • What's the battery life like?

From that link I posted above. The battery life is dreadful.

    Battery Runtime
It is thus not surprising that the battery life of the GE62 6QD is relatively short. Its 53 Wh battery achieves 149 minutes in the Internet browsing test and one hour in the load test. That again shows that the former models retrieved more from the available possibilities, i.e. even smaller batteries. The comparison with identically equipped Skylake rivals is not quite fair since they all have a higher capacity. However, a 137% longer Internet browsing time and only almost 10% more battery capacity achieved by the IdeaPad Y700 at least indicate where current Skylake systems should actually range.

Apple put a 99 Wh battery in their overpriced Macbook Pros, but MSI cheap out on the battery on what is suppose to be a portable machine. Disappointing…

    • Agreed there it definitely deserves to have more juice 53 Wh is just pitiful, I think the main problem is that people have come to expect poor battery life for what they call "gaming laptops" they will most likely just be placed on a desk somewhere or lug it to and from work or Uni where it will be plugged in 90% of time.

As the main manufacturers of these type of units (Dell, Asus, MSI, Clevo etc.) have made pretty much no effort to put in larger batteries or improve battery life they just ride on the assumption that consumers will continue the attitude of "oh its a gaming laptop the battery life will likely suck, but its ok since I will plug it in most of the time" The manufacturers continue to get away with skimping on the battery life because of this attitude.

Another reason would also be the use of a smaller battery to cut down on weight thus making it more portable, most of these high specced laptops are already heavy enough. And it seems as if they have chosen to cut the battery size as they believe it is probably of less importance to there type of consumer who will most likely have the above attitude, portability and on battery usability are two different things.
