Telstra National Outage - Tuesday 22 March 2016

Nothing really to see here, just the usual weekly Telstra nationwide outage.

Telstra appears to be suffering yet another mobile phone outage with customers reporting an inability to make phone calls.

A spokesman for Telstra said it was receiving reports of problems making calls to and from fixed-line and mobile phone services.

This came after social media began lighting up on Tuesday morning with angry customers getting patchy services.

If the outage is confirmed this would [be] the fourth mobile outage to hit Telstra's once-sterling reputation in two months.

    I thought they were expensive because they were the most reliable one out of all telcos. Wow, what happened with them?

    • From what I've heard, Telstra has made a lot of their previous (arguably more reliable) staff redundant in favour of lesser qualified staff, in turn costing Telstra less in labour costs. That would be a notable (but not only) factor that is behind this mess.

      • What they offer in terms of "value" were always less compared to the other two (Optus and Vodafone) as far as I could see, well at least with the mobile service. Telstra always had less data or less call time or something that'd make me go, why would I pay for them when I can get more from others (though I did hear from others that they are better than other telcos in rural areas).

        I frankly think what they've done will backfire since "premium image" (for people to go, I'd pay more for them for better quality) is hard to build up but easy to lose.

  • I switch my cable internet to telstra after being with optus since 99. During evenings optus not usable only 3mbs, Telstra not much better 7-8mbs I agree I thought you pay extra for better service sadly not the case. FYI I connect max at 115MBS when network congestion not an issue.

    • I've actually heard the same. I've been with Optus and Telstra in the past, and when it came to peak times of the day for internet usage you couldn't always distinguish between the two…
