[Android] Tasker and Its Alternatives

Hi Guys,

So I know there was a sale on for "tasker" sometime last year that I kind of missed out on but have noticed that the price is currently at the sale price of $3.49. I recently started using an app that has a similar function as "tasker" called "automate" and it seems really simple to use. The UI is simple and the rules making is basically creating flowcharts, I did however find that one of the task does not working with android 4.4 and below (the LED notification toggles). I've also heard that "automate" is not as powerful as "tasker".

What I wanted to ask you guys was the following:

Anyone have experience with both apps and can comment on the ease of use and their differences?
Are there any limitations such as the LED notification that I stated?
Which app would you choose?

I am planning on buying one or the other but am currently undecided.

Thanks!

I've been using Llama for years and it's been excellent. However, the app hasn't received updates for a while now.

    Thinking about switching to Automate.

    • Is Llama purely based off locations? I was planning on making an automation that would turn off LED lights during a certain period of time. Example would be at night when you are trying to sleep, technically I could turn it off myself but… if I can automate it, I would =P

Problem with this is that my phone runs 4.4.4 (or was that 4.4.3…) and the LED toggles do not work with Automate. Does Llama work with time based triggers?

Llama works perfectly well with time based triggers, location based triggers, or a combination of both.

I have a rule to tell the phone to go to silent mode in the evening, if and only if at home. Then I added a complementary rule to enter loud mode in the evening if not at home.

IMHO, Llama works best with Android 4.x. From 5.0 onward it's showing its age.
