Product Return/Replacement Experience from Different Stores

Wondering if people could share their product return/replacement experience with different stores for others to benefit

Good ones :-

Target – clothes to electronics, even had a Breville microwave without its packing returned without any hassle, refund was done on the spot.

Apple – walked into the store 1 year 10 months on iphone 5s had died wouldn’t turn on – was on a contract with vodaofone but no questions, no receipts asked gave me a refurb one was out of the store in 5 min

Go pro – got the go pro session during the Harvey Norman sale , one of the stands had a problem, one email got a new one delivered by DHL.

Lately Garmin – their fitness band died 6 months after buying, one call and got a new one within a week (had to send the old one at my cost though)

Bad :-

HTC – phone had issues 2 months after buying – they asked for receipts, where I had bought it how I used it etc etc, sent it for repair got it after a month – same issue re-occurred 3 months later – into the bin it goes.

JB Hi Fi – Bought a Garmin GPS wouldn’t get a signal went the next day with all the packaging, boxes, manual etc – would replace it, asked to talk to Garmin. Had to argue for ages to get it sorted long story short awful.

This is why when I worked retail. I straight up gave refunds or replacements no questions asked. I even would mention that a refund might be better if it looks like that particular thing was prone to the same issues.

No stress for me or the customer, and still probably a bigger cost benefit even when you factor in dodgy returns. It would confuse me why my co workers were adamant about making refunds difficult. Funny thing was, I never took KPIs seriously and I'd still be outperforming the requirements.

  • OP, glad you post.

Personally think it is important Australian customers to recognise, support stores that offer good customer service and return policy. Reward them with your loyalty and business. Vote with your pockets and walk away from shops with poor return policy,

Only in this way, we and our future generation can continue to enjoy relative good return policy in Australia.

Best of all DJ , Myers and Rebel.
    Worst - RIP Dick.

  • Woolworths - surprised me last night. Bought fresh raspberries, got to the car to eat them, discovered mouldy, went back in, grabbed another punnet and they refunded me their cost as well. I can just see people seeking out mouldy fruit on purpose if that is normal.

  • Dick Smith: bought an overnight eneloop charger online, about 8 months in it stopped charging. Brought it to a local store, not only they gave me a new one, but they gave me the more expensive smart charger instead of the cheaper overnight one!

Bad: Masters, bought a portable air condition, bring home, turn on then find out too noise, bring back, refuse for return.

  • I actually have good experiences with JB Hi Fi.
Got a refund for my beats earphones after 6 months of use (1 ear doesn't work), I did wait about 10min to get staff's attention but the refund process was quick.
After 2 weeks of using the GoPro, the screen had a line across it. The guy gave me a new one straight out of the box.

  • Anyone know how good Dell is? I recently purchased an outlet model 'as new' but it went on a blue screen loop the day I received it (on Friday, shutting down restarting various error codes). Main reason I went with Dell Outlet is due to quick delivery from the hub (it was a undelivered returned unit so didn't have to wait two weeks for it to be ordered/shipped from the factory). Do I have good grounds for an immediate exchange? And if they don't have the same model on hand can I lobby for an upgraded unit? The tech support line is closed on the weekend so will have to call tomorrow. Don't really want to go down the refund route as it will probably take more than two weeks to put back in my account and I need a laptop now for work. Hope at the very least they send a tech out to try and repair but there is backlight bleed around the bezel so think it might be otherwise defective. Anyone have good experiences? Last thing I want is to wait weeks for a $2000 refund.
