Moved to Forum: Original Link

Hi all,

Just spoken to Telstra 24x7 Chat and have confirmed a new deal from Monday.

7GB (5GB + 2GB Bonus Data) of data, $1000 worth of calls and unlimited text/MMS/MessageBank all to use in Australia for only a $40/mo on a 12 months contract.

Similar to the deal which was posted last week in conjunction with eBay
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/238586

From Monday Telstra are running another promo, with the same details as the last promo.

Sorry I don't know much, the Telstra live chat people all seem to know different things.

    • Only available to new customers?

      • New numbers. I was an existing customer with other services.

        • I spent 30 mins on Telstra 24x7 Chat earlier today trying to get this deal. I am an existing Telstra mobile customer but my contract expired last week. The girl I spoke with had no idea of this Go Mobile BYO Plan and only made mention of the My & Mz plans previously mentioned in this thread. When I asked if I was eligible for those as an existing out-of-contract customer she said, no. A bit of back & forth about Telstra not rewarding loyal customers got me nowhere so I just left it at that. I’ll probably try again later today or tomorrow to see if I can get any further.

I can confirm. I just signed up with everything you mentioned except I couldn't get the $80 credit, not sure how you scored that one.

      • The dude was super nice. I had 2 months left on my Voda contract, $80 to cancel…. he took about 35 seconds to ask his supervisor and agree to it.

        • +1

You wouldn't know the super nice dude's name would you?

      • Did you also call through? or was this Live Chat online?

        • I called through with the number that bearded provided

        • Cheers

    • I'm giving this a go. $80 credit will be great and would cover my contract-breaking fee!

      • +1

Maybe try $200 and see what they say. The gave no objection to the $80 at all. Super nice

    • I called 132200, asked for sales and I've been begging them to give me the same deal you got, but no go.
I was trying to convince them that someone has actually got $40 7gb Today, but unless I give them the mobile number they won't do it… :-(
      Any ideas anyone?

      • Called through twice, friendly staff both times, they talked to their supervisor - no go.

  • +1

Signed up to the $40 a month with 7gb via the chat plus an extra $10 via the family and friends staff discount offer - Now that comes down to $30 a month!! woohoo!! :D

    • Just tried via the chat, no go….:-(

    • +1

Would you mind posting the first name or of the person who gave you the offer, so others can try?

    • New or existing customer? Waiting for some hope that existing can get this deal. Tried twice, no luck.

      • new customer, still no go…

        existing customer

    • Screenshot, baby

  • I was able to port from Freedom Plus to the BYO Mx offer which was advertised for new customers only.

  • I must have got lucky. Longtime disgruntled Telstra customer with BYO phone, no contract. It expired ages ago but I had not followed it up. Was previously paying $59/month with a lousy 1gb data. Asked about the deal on live chat, at the mobile bundles Telstra screen. . First lady I spoke to said she couldn't offer it to me but she'd put me through to somebody else on live chat who "might be able to help". Was redirected. Told her I'm thinking of walking because Telstra only rewarded new customers, nothing for loyal long-timers. All done and dusted within 10 minutes. Ended up getting $40/month, 7gb data, with $1000 calls and unlimited texts. 12 month term. When I clicked on my Telstra app I noticed I've also scored 200gb of free Microsoft storage. My BF tried an hour after me getting the deal and the best he could get was the $50 Go mobile plan with 5GB data. He's pretty happy with that as his plan was shitful before that.

    • You wouldn't remember the name of the person who was able to help?

  • Just asked about the $40 7gb plan and the rep told me it's definitely available. But as their sales department has closed for the day, she said they'll call me tomorrow to finalize the order. Hope it all works out!

    • Would you know the name of the rep who said it's definitely available?
I've had some reps say yes, then later say no, no longer available;-(
I hope you get it, gives hope for the rest of us! ;-)

      • Her name was Amy. The rep before her refused and said that the deal was not available. And thanks! I'm not signing up until they give me the deal that they quoted.

        • Let us know if you do manage to receive a call back!

        • Not very impressed! I got the call back today but the rep said that the quoted offer is not available and only offered 5GB for $40. I told her to cancel the order.

        • Bad luck.

  • Still no luck. I've tried 3 times via 24x7 chat. Best offer I've had so far;

We can do the $70 BYO down to $60 or the $50 BYO down to $40. With the data, it can only be for 5GB and 10GB

    • I manage to start a chat session last night and manage to get them to sign up another account on the $40 BYO 7gb last night.

Fourth time's a charm!! Just signed up on Go Mobile $40/7GB deal for myself and my wife.

  • Telstra website is now offering the MZ plan, $50 a month 7GB. I had no luck getting the $40 deal earlier today, so might just go $50 instead.

  • I might fire up four simultaneous attempts:

    https://livechat.telstra.com/TCOM:Mobile:Default
    https://sales.liveperson.net
    1800 676 642
    and 132200

    • No luck with both chats. However at the end of session on https://sales.liveperson.net after name dropping Sharon Employee Number: D681807 from tuannie post above I was put through a "accounts specialist team" at:

      https://livechat.telstra.com/TCOM:PFP:Default

      • +2

But even that accounts specialist team could not provide $40/7GB any more.

They also reckon that the offer that @tuannie mentioned was either misinterpreted or misrepresented and will be coached.

This is what shits me about Telstra. Its pot luck who you end up talking to. Screams incompetence and bad management. Signing up with Optus tomorrow, I'm done.

    • +1

I'm inclined to think that people who finally "find" the offer are not actually being provided what they were expecting. On Mx, I disregarded the costs until the bill arrived, as much of the signup confirmations/welcomes do not reflect the additions in the offer.

  • Just so u guys can compare…

    Optus $40 Unlimited 10GB until 31/3/16 - http://www.optus.com.au/shop/mobilephones/SimBYO

and I was going to add my deal on Vodafone which was 20GB 2 yr contract for $60, but doesnt look like its running anymore. $60 gets u 12gb and $85 gets u 20gb on a 2 yr plan with Vodafone - http://www.vodafone.com.au/personal/plans/sim-only/state/24-…

  • open in new incognito window: https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/plans-and-rates/mz-…

    this is for $50 p/m with 7GB / $1000 calls

    • This is an interesting line on there "You’ll also be required to self-manage your account online while you remain on the offer." It implies you aren't allowed to call the call centre if you have any issues or questions with your account.

Live chat is SO much better anyway, for obvious reasons.

    Hi guys,
Thought I would share with you my experience

I'm a current (stupid) Telstra Post-Paid Plan customer with $800 calls, 2.5GB data, unlimited SMS/MMS. I have an iPhone 6 and my handset plan was an additional $16. So $111 altogether.

I got on LiveChat and asked to change my plan and was able to change to the following:
Go Mobile BYO 50 Plan: $1000 calls, unlimited SMS/MMS, 5GB data, 12 month plan = $40 per month

However I have to pay $312 to pay off my handset (plan doesn't end until November). Still in a better position.

I repeatedly tried to get the 7GB but was denied.

  • I remember all the way back to the beginning of the year when all prepay users rcvd bonus 5gb. Quite generous.

  • I logged in to my Telstra account via Telstra, com.au this morning and in the Plans and Usage section there was a message and link : "New BYO offer". I used the link and read "MY BYO gives you an impressive 5GB for only $40/mth (min. cost $480 over 12 months) if you’re a new customer and do everything online. That’s a $10 per month discount when compared to our $50/mth Go Mobile BYO M Plan, just for being tech-savvy and terrific. It’s our way of rewarding those who help themselves."

I used Live Chat and asked Telstra to match my Boost $40/month unlimited calls deal but was told, "No, cannot match that …its $1000 calls per month, but I could have unlimited for the first 3 months and then go back to $1000/month".

Like my bundle "deal" with Telstra, the success or otherwise when dealing with their call centre or live chat reps is a lottery. Some will cut prices, offer bigger downloads … others don't. Seems to be a case of pot luck for customers.

Left hands don't know what the right hands are doing. And this is, supposedly, the top-rated telco in Oz. Heaven help us!!!

Can you help us with a manual link to the $40 for 5gb plan?

      • Was mentioned previously in this thread here.
Need to open links in private/incognito window within your browser.

My experience, for those looking for a new BYO Plan:

Contacted telstra via chat and spoke to two representatives.

The Mx BYO Plan which included 7gb, $1000 calls and text on a 12mth contract for $40/mth expired on the 16th of March.

The My BYO Plan which is the same, except only includes 5gb of data is still available for $40/mth and expires on the 6th of April.

They also have a Mz (I think that's what they called it) which is the same as Mx but costs $50/mth.

I repeatedly tried to get the extra data but it seemed to be hopeless, even after asking to get approval from a manager. I even tried to get a better deal for bringing my wife across to telstra as well. Still, no budging, not even any joining bonus.

    • I'd still be happy with that

  • happy days

Went on Telstra 24/7 Chat, was told deal expired 1/4/16 (which seems like a lie since others weren't able to get this off the website prior to this date)

In any case, had a whinge about how disappointed I was and how hard it was to find the deal and the operator was able to process it manually for me.

    Went from a $50 5GB plan to $40 7GB, loving the value

    thank you ozbargain

    • do you have a employee ID who you spoke with ??

      • I do

        Howard
        Employee Number: D726304

He was a nice guy, hope this doesn't get him in trouble

    • keen to know too…
