Do You Need The Rego Papers to Trade in a Car When Buying a New Car? NSW

Hey everyone,
I recently purchased a new car and am trading in my current car, delivery is next week. I assumed the rego papers for my car were in the glove box but they are not there. Just wondering if anyone has experience in this. Do I need the rego papers to trade in the car? The dealer already knew it was registered and when the rego was to expire when they were doing the evaluation. THis is in NSW

Thanks

  • Hi. Not in NSW but recently traded in a car and was sent to go get a copy. $7 and a trip to Department of Transport

    • I think its about $20 here.

  • Should be able to fill in notice of disposal online. https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/submit-notice-dis…

  • As above, they'll be required. Pure purpose of that is so the dealership knows you're the current owner

    • Yeah thought so, guess i'm off to RTA or Service NSW whatever they are called now. Thanks.

  • Yes, we forgot to take our rego papers when trading in a car. Travelled for an hour to finish the transaction and ended up having to make a hire agreement (no charge) with the car yard on the new vehicle as they wouldn't let us take posession until the rego papers were in their hands. Had to mail them in and wait a few days for it to be sorted out.
