''When we started, people were saying that nobody would buy anything except for books and CDs online…how things have changed :-).''

I think they are mistaking themselves with Amazon.

If i made millions from having a mistake, I'd would laugh it off and go back to my yahct

      • Poor bastard is probably crying himself to sleep right now on the bosom of some supermodel…I'd better tweet him, make sure he's OK! :)

    • -3

Kogan was hardly an online pioneer.

      • +3

Why bag the bloke? Started selling tv,s out of his bedroom, now doing more than most of us could ever do. The country would do well to have a few more of him.

        • +2

Spot on…tall poppy syndrome at it's finest.

        • -1

He is attempting to portray himself as something more than he actually is. Online retail was well established by the time he came to the party.

        • -1

@StewBalls: We obviously have different views on what constitutes a tall poppy.

        • Read Alan Kohlers piece in the Australian on Wednesday. The guy has his own patented algorithms and programs that make the way traditional online retailing is done a whole lot more profitable. The less hands it has to touch, more money in his pocket. You only bother patenting something that is revolutionary. He may not be everything, but successful he is.

          Disclaimer
I have never purchased from kogan either

        • -1

@gza: I seen the dumbest ideas patented..

        • @dellbon: I'll be sure to keep that in mind if ever I place an order with dellbon.com.au ;)

    Any bargains?

  • +5

Would put the s7 edge at $922.13 shipped. Tempting.

    Obviously not Aus stock though.

Anyone know what version they would ship?

  • +2

    s7 edge only $999 before 10%???

  • +3

code is case sensitive, must be all upper case

  • Sorry, that is not a valid discount code.

Edit: Working now, thanks Russbot! :)

  • +7

    Ew, Kogan.

    • +6

I know they've lasted 10 years and it's his surname, but I always wonder if they might be more successful if they'd have chosen a name that didn't sound so close to Bogan.

  • +32

Celebrating 10 years of tax dodging, generic plastic junk and terrible customer service.

    • +2

      My G4 works pretty good.

      Avoid the generic plastic junk.

    • +6

      i love my 27" 1440p Kogan monitor

    • Used their eBay store for the first time a few weeks ago. Got a good deal on a Samsung UHD monitor and it was delivered within the timeframe. So I'm pretty happy, guessing other people have had negative experiences based on the mood here.

    • Just picked up a Blue Yeti. I wouldn't call that generic plastic junk.

  • +1

By 1 July 2017, their price will increase due to no more gst free.

Im very sure eofy 2017 will be huge sale on kogan, last big bang. I'm saving my money for that.

    • By 1 July 2050, Kogan will take over Myer

      • +2

By 1 July 2099, what is Kogan? who? what? …

You'll print your own 'phone' using a public machine

        • By then the birthday sales will be close to 50% and 100% off.

  • +2

Is this a true 10% sale or did they change some price and then put the sale on. Anyone want to confirm?

bogan price jacking at it again

      Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm F1.8G Lens

      30 Aug 2014 $189
      8th Feb 2016 $239
      16th March 2016 $259

      • +2

thought so.. Thought I'd give em benefit of the doubt and + the deal, but Kogan never changes. Dodgey business practice. Surprised they lasted this long.

        • +7

so its not really 10% off

      • +7

Not really fair to compare with August 2014 when AUD was still above 90c.

        • +2

          this is a bargain site… $259 less 10% is not a bargain.

        • @snoo: In my mind the bargain is made if it's the best deal on the market relative to competitors, not what it has sold for in the past or may do in the future… is the lens available cheaper elsewhere (it may very well be in which case I agree it's not a bargain)?

        • +11

DWI have it right now in stock for $219

10% off jacked prices is not a bargain.

        • +4

          @snoo:

          Fair call then :)

      • Agreed

  • I wonder if the new dicksmith would start to sell grey products once its taken over by kogan

    • why not

    • +7

      dick is pretty grey now

    • whats grey and hangs out your underpants?

      your grandma!

    • Sounds like something a Kogan employee would say

      Hmmmmmm

  • +2

why is shipping so much for knockoff iphone headphones? it's literally over double the cost of the headphones themselves, so i went to add a few more my cart to reduce the cost but it multiplied the shipping cost by however many i added.

surely you're not shipping them all seperately.

    • +3

nope, it'll all arrive in one box, just kogan's dodgy tactics

    • Totally agree. Their lack of combined shipping really is a deal breaker.

I was hoping to get two chairs and the cost of shipping was $100 each (This is in Mlbn & cost at most Mlbn retailers would be $50 who would then combine it).

Talk about a disincentive to purchase.

  • +5

It's not a bargain when you jack up your prices and then have a "sale".

  • +2

The birthday paradox says that in any random 20 individuals, there's 50% chance that two of which share the same birthday. The chance increases to 90% if there are 40 individuals.

Obviously there are definitely more than 40 retailers out there, how come none of them have birthday sale together?

  • +2

    10%…meh…

  • +1

    Thanks EC!!

Picked up 5 SIMs for 20 cents and saved five whole cents!! :)

    • +5

      Good on you champ.

  • +9

Raised the prices to offset the discount.

This shouldn't be on front page.

  • +3

    Typical Kogan "sale"

  • +10

Raise prices then advertise a sale… um, no. Seems like they're quite ready to embrace the DS 'sales' techniques in addition to their customer database.

  • +4

Happy Birthday to our amazing fans and incredible team. When we started, people were saying that nobody would buy anything except for books and CDs online…how things have changed :-).

I see Kogan is still an idiot, ten years ago heaps of people were purchasing all sorts of things online and companies like Amazon were already huge. To make the claim that they played some part in changing purchasing habits online shows the arrogance that is Kogan. 10 years ago people were still saying that Kogan sold overpriced rubbish and he still does it today.

What a journey it's been, and we're only just getting started.

    Please don't make threats.

We'll continue to work tirelessly to ensure the next 10 years are even bigger and better!

I hope Kogan are long gone in ten years…..

  • +7

Love your work, easternculture, and you probably weren't to know. Sorry, neg from me.

    Price jacking is ******.

  • +6

As others stated, not a deal if they decide to 'Jack up' their prices.

  • +8

Speaking from my experience with them in the past 24 hours, avoid this mob like the plague.

  • +5

this was news back in February
I mean surely they can't be that stupid to continue their dodgy tactics after being caught out by the ACCC?

  • Moto G 3rd gen
    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/motorola-moto-g-3rd-gen-xt1541-…

Or wait for the Moto G 4th gen which is expected to come out mid year?

    • +2

I wouldn't purchase that regardless. It is the XT1541 model which is different than the XT1550 Moto G 3rd gen which is sold in Australia. The XT1541 is only 8GB V 16GB storage, 1GB ram v 2GB ram and doesn't support all Australian bands. See discussion

      • -2

No shit, thanks for letting me know! What do you (or anyone else reading) think of the 3rd gen vs waiting for 4th gen.

I mean it's not too long till it comes out, but price would be way more. Value is my main criteria.

        • +1

Difficult question and I'm no expert, if you can get an XT1550 for mid to slightly high $200s I would get one now - otherwise hold off as most retailers are close to the price it was on release.

The 3rd gen is only about 8 months old so good if you can get one $250-$270ish and I'd imagine the new version is at least 4-6 months away from release. Motorola price has increased a little every release I believe, so I guess the 4th gen could be close to $400.

  • +6

Like others have said here, hope not much people being duped by their price jacking practice…

  • +5

Neg from me too - definitlely not front page worthy - seriously who is upvoting this? And why?

Its the Same generic low end stuff that Sells on ebay in many cases for a fraction of the price

And Ive recieved busted headphones from them from poor packaging - i did not pay anything for them but still…

Also I got a free flag cape from them once, it was flimsy and cheap but worked as intended - but wont save you from a neg, Kogan

And heres a corker - this little pearler bottle opener ring thingy that i got for 1c courtesy of TA costs $9 at kogan - if you cant math thats a 900% difference !

    Compare the pair

    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/stainless-steel-ring-bottle-ope…

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/203133

    • +5

      Well you "can't math" either.

      It's a 89900% price increase.

      • *900x

Haha was a typo but nice one!

        • the "x" is nowhere near the "%" on the keyboard…

        • @inasero: yes it was my brain that made the typo, not my fingers - if you require greater detail on the circumstances surrounding the typo, please dont hesitate to ask, thanks for your concern - i sincerely hope together we can work to satiate your curiosity

  • +3

Price jacking again Kogan? Didn't you already get fined for this? But I see you bought Dick Smith. Another well known price jacker.

Honestly, between this and the shit they pulled on the eBay CTECHIE sale. Jack prices because eBay/PayPal pick up the difference…

Shady dealings… Hope they get fined again, along with all the others during the last few eBay sales…

  • Seems to be a lot of bullshit unsubstantiated claims here and a lot of Kogan hate, but I have no idea why. I have been following a number of products that I was keen on over the last 2 weeks and did not see a single case of prices being raised. Just pissed off that I missed the eBay 20% off sale. Anyone know if eBay will have a similar deal soon?

    • Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm F1.8G Lens

      30 Aug 2014 $189(web.archive.org)
      8th Feb 2016 $239(web.archive.org)
      16th March 2016 $259(kogan.com)

  • They do this always. Last time eBay had a 20% discount, they raised their prices by 15%

    • It's apt that they acquired Dick. Online department stores here are mostly an embarrassing joke.

  • Is $395.07 delivered a bargain for this EVGA GeForce GTX970 4GB ACX Dual Fan PCI-E 3.0 Video card?

I am tempted partly because the GTX970 is listed as a minimum/recommended type of graphics card required for the soon to be shipping Oculus Rift consumer version as an option if I decide/manage to try/buy one.

It appears to be the cheapest I can find this type of card but I hesitated yesterday after adding to my cart and applying the 10% off code and did not complete the purchase but I received an email today offering: "We've saved your order for a limited time" and when I click on it the price remains discounted so the code is either still working or continues to apply "for a limited time".
