Mobile Broadband

Hi
I'm looking for a mobile broadband service at the moment, any suggestions on
which provider offers better value for money?

From what I've found so far, Vodafone prepaid offers a modem for $79 and 4GB for a $49 recharge. There's 10% off for recharges at some stores.

Cheers

  • I think Voda offer the cheapest setup and I think their service is OK too..

Exetel, Internode and some other ISP's (iiNet I think and Adam if you're in SA) do decent deals (more pricy, but more reliable than the Telco offerings)

Telstra is fastest and most expensive to setup and ongoing.

Three has limited range but is cheap and supposed to be OK.

Steer clear of Dodo, as a general rule…

Optus and Virgin have long histories of poor service, usnsure if that's still the case. It is/was due to oversold service.

You can purchase Vodafone recharges from Dick Smith and Woolworths at 10% off. Have to say though, wireless broadband prices resemble daylight robbery

  • i was on voda prepaid and about to switch to a 1 year voda plan 29.95/3gb. Probably what i would spend anyway and i only wanted to go on a short contract. v easy to use and connection speed seems ok (obviously not broadband speeds) but more than adequate for moderate use and good for renters.

i think you can look at prepaid ones first to check out the reception… there's nothing worse than going onto a plan where the 3G network in your area is congested.

this is personal experience, i had virgin mobile broadband in melbourne, which worked perfect, until I came to this suburb in sydney which i encounter regular dropouts, timeouts and speed problems.

don't just base on brands…. brands don't mean crap when that base you are connecting to is full.

I personally recommend get the $149 -> Modem + 12Gb data that 3 is having right now..

It's quite a good bargain for a year worth of Internet.. (1 year expiry date)

    (1 Gb/mth) for Browsing + email..

I am currently using Exetel's 5GB/month for $37.50 and no contract. Got an Optus locked modem & a DLink 3G router for cheap on eBay and it has worked "good enough" for me for the last 2 months. I miss my ADSL connection :(

One problem with 3 Prepaid is that you are getting a private IP address (you only get a real public IP if you are on post paid I think). Could be an advantage if you are just browsing, but could be an issue if you need to dial into your 3G-connected computer.

  • I think unwired is good if you are in a coverage area,

i am on the 25gb plan for $49.95 5gb peak 20gb off peak its relatively cheap and gives me lots of usage whilst at work for downloads and normal browsing for home, sure the speeds arnt that great but its reliable.

  • how much data do you use a month? and do you want a contract?

the UNWIRED discount codes only work for 1 month after they are generated.

so these 3 codes will work until 22 may 2010
