Titles - Number of Characters

i've noted with some deals i've posted that mods have cleaned up the title (which is great, no problem there) but I note that number of characters in the title is greater than what I can enter.

also If I edit the title which a mod has already edited then I can't use the same number of characters.

example (the deal I just listed for xiaomi mi band

the mods edited title was "Xiaomi Mi Band 1s w/ Heart Rate Monitor US $18.98 Shipped (~AU $23.59, Possibly ~AU $21.16 w/EB Points - New Users) @ Everbuying"

the US price was higher than the everbuying price so I went to change the 18.98 to 17.59, but when I got rid of the higher price (deleting 5 characters) it then wouldnt let me enter in the new price.

in fact I had to re-do the title to "Xiaomi Mi Band 1s w/ Heart Rate Monitor US $17.59 (Maybe US $15.59 w/EB Points) @ Everbuying" which is significantly shorter than the mods title.

why does this (reduced number of characters thing) happen?

    Because the database field length for title is actually longer than the max we allowed on the form, and mods have access to quick-edit tools that let them bypass the deal editing form.

    However it's always better to keep the title short, concise and informative. So good job shortening it.

    There's also lil hacks you can do if you need to gain a couple of spaces, utilising the auto-correct function of the title.

    So if you have brackets in the title, delete the space before and after them, auto-correct will add them but it gives you 2 extra letters.

    The currency figures also add a space automatically, so US$100 will get converted to US $100, so it gets you another space or 2 if you have AU$ in the title as well.

    These couple of simple things can make the difference sometimes, but also as Scotty said, a concise title is sometimes all that's necessary :)

      I've been using this a lot lately. Hopefully scotty won't fix it now that he knows.

        I've made the comment before, I don't think our benevolent leader will worry, what's an extra couple of characters between friends ;)
