Microsoft Band 2... new low price but is it worth it?

Hey

http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msaus/en_AU/pdp/Microsof…

Looks like the MB2 has dropped by $50 to $330 and if you use Amex on MS site you get another $30 off, plus if use TRS GST refund its another $30 off.

So is $270 for a MB2 band worth it?

I was all set to buy one last month but then looking at it as a fitness tracker the FitbitHr was better value for money at half the price.

Then also as a smart watch then the LG and Samsung look beter value for funtions and look.

So if anybody has one and can comment….why is ypur MB2 worth the money compared to the competition ?

  • 2 day battery- unless you're a fitness lover I can see this product not been used.

Feels too expensive even though its the most advance.

I wouldn't get fitbit its over rated imo

  • I highly recommend trying one out in-store. They're kinda chunky, and even if you wear the screen on the inside of the wrist, it's hard to lay your arm flat. I think if you're looking for a fitness tracker, then you can get one that lasts longer, much cheaper, and less obtrusive.

    • Yeah agreee, as a fitness tracker alone I cant part with more than $150 for MB2 features. My fitbit hr cost me $130

  • On special too at JB HiFi ($329) and Harvey Norman ($328) - although they won't have the additional discounts (AMEX, TRS):

  • It's a lot of money for an HR monitor.

Considering a fitbit hr can be had for the $130 mark, and a xiaomi HR monitor can be had for less than half of that. It seems a rather large step up for a MS product

    • Yeah agree but thete must be somone here who has one and can support the purchase….otherwise nobody been buying it and could be another price drop?

I note they never brought across MB1 to Aust and this MB2 didnt come across to Australia straigh away….i really think they got pricing wrong in Australia compared to competition.

Over at Amazon USA you can get one for $usd175 compared to thier USA fitbit HR price of usd$130

  • Decided to upgrade from my Fitbit HR to Microsoft Band 2 and give you feedback 3 days in.

    Bought for $303 from JB HI-Fi - RECEIPT - http://younge.eu/Younge/OzBargain/20160410-Microsoft-Band-2%…

Reason for upgrading was due to GPS tracker and my current Fit Bit not recording my HR/sleep correctly.

When i first tried the band on it wasn't very comfortable due to the salesman putting it on the wrong arm but after correcting this it is as comfortable, if not more then my Fitbit HR.

    What i like -
How much data this thing records, like seriously, puts fitbit to shame
receiving text notifications on my wrist, very hand when i'm at the gym
being able to control music - i have wireless headphones that i can now turn up and down easily
interface is beautiful once you get used to it

things i do not like -
battery life - It dies very quickly depending on how much you use it. I've got into the habit of charging mine for 45 minutes each day whilst i get ready for work which seems to be enough but for some this might be annoying.
Doesn't work as well with third party apps - MYfitness Pal doesn't Sync steps due to a known bug - hopefully this will be fixed soon.

I'm more then happy with my purchase and to who ever else is debating getting one try not to get sucked into the bad reviews online. I searched for hours on end trying to find a reason not to buy one and ended up trying it out for myself.

    • How did you get it down to $303?

      • Simply showed them amazon and went to walk away.
MY receipt should be enough if others want to get one.

  • I personally don't think so. If you want good features and like the Microsoft Band's form factor then I would recommend you check out the Garmin Vivofit 2 or for something better the Garmin Vivosmart HR (Vivosmart 2).

  • +1

I do like how some people will try suggest another product without trying it first.
Another quick update - Can build a custom work out for my running for minute and rest for 30 seconds - Microsoft health is seriously a cool tool!

Woke up via "Smart Alarm today" - works very well…… very well indeed.
Too much sleep or too little—neither is a good thing. When you set a Smart Alarm, your Band will sense your sleep patterns and estimate the best wake-up time for you (up to 30 minutes before your alarm set time) helping you be at your best in the morning.

Discovered by switching off Bluetooth the battery life increases a lot.
