Am I paying too much for this laptop?

Hey guys. Need some help with a high-end notebook. Would I be paying too much for the laptop listed in the URL below considering its specifications? It has a USB 3.0 port, 4GB DDR3 RAM, 1GB ATI/NVIDIA GPU, Core i7 Processor, HDMI output, Bluray Writer, 2MP Webcam, Wireless N, and 640GB hard drive.

ASUS $1755.

I'm looking to buy a powerful notebook like the one listed here.

The only downside to this one is that it's 16". My friend has a 16" notebook and it looks odd. Like out of shape. I'm looking for 17".

So, is the price listed justified?

That's not a bad price IMO… If it was a 17" that would make it better and the HDD should be 1TB - but other than those little things, still a good price for what it offers…

    they have, but apparently only western digital, as i could only find 640gb on the seagate site

Looks alright for the price but I think the ATI Radeon HD5730 may be a bit slow for gaming. Depends on what you want to do with the notebook I guess. Also, I would also check if there is a possibility to upgrade to 8GB ram should you need to down the track. Good luck on the search.

One thing to note, I don't think it is a Blu-ray writer… I think it plays blu-ray and can write dvds, may want to check that with the company as that alone is worth a few hundred dollars.

Getting one with a Blu Ray WRITER may be a lot harder and more expensive. Can I suggest perhaps skipping on it now and perhaps in the future using an External Writer (for blu rays of course) when the price becomes more acceptable.

A benefit might not only just be price but that the external blu ray writer will probably be faster and perhaps more reliable.

Turns out, because of Dick Smith, I would have been paying 300 dollars too much for this laptop… Same one on sale for $1447… Haha
