Samsung Galaxy Note 5 64GB (Gold N920i) - $1098 @ Harvey Norman

61

Harvey Norman are currently offering the Note 5 at $100 off their usual ticket price of $1198. This is Australian stock with 24 month warranty included and no carrier association or apps.

This is the cheapest I have seen the Note 5 64gb variant available at any B&M store in recent months, and while it doesn't compare to the earlier MobileCiti or some other expired deals, hopefully some of you can use this to get your local retailer to match the price - I'm trying JB today & will report back with results! Edit: no issue with JB, phone was price matched & with a $100 voucher I had, ended up being $998.

  • $839.20 for 32GB… is the extra 32GB worth $260?

    • -1

      no
      seen cheaper

      • +1

I was comparing Aus stock with Aust stock. If I wanted to use a grey import to compare, I'd go with this @ $713.59 delivered

For me, yes, as I'm upgrading from a 64gb OPO that's close to full. I use all the cloud storage I have available, and for me personally there's no way I could deal with <27gb free space on a phone with no SD.

In reality, no, obviously it wouldn't cost Samsung $260 to double onboard storage, but I also had a $100 JB gift voucher so after the price match I ended up getting the phone for $998.

      • What are you filling your phone with?

        • Truth be told I actually have 32gb free (earlier post was from memory when I checked earlier in the year before moving lots of photos etc to cloud storage and I hadn't checked more recently, but your question prompted me to) on my old phone currently, but if I had only 32gb to begin with, well then I'd have to start uninstalling apps I use etc. So really, for the money, I was much happier going the 64gb option so I'm not forced to change the way I use my phone due to more than halving the storage I'm used to having onboard.

  • How is this compared to s7 edge?

    • +2

      Wider

      • You ain't wrong!

    • +1

      slower

    • Horses for courses I suppose, obviously the S7/Edge is going to have better specs as it's 6 months newer, although it's hardware will more than likely end up in the Note 6 eventually.

I have a Note tablet and love having a stylus, so am more than happy to pay more for that functionality, even if the phone isn't "the best hardware available in March 2016" - but there's always something better around the corner whichever way you look at it with phones these days. There's certainly no better phone with a stylus as functional as the S Pen available currently, imo.

    • Saw this too before buying or submitting this price here, however that MobileCiti phone does come with Telstra network branding, while Harvey Norman/JB stock is telco-agnostic.

In reality, the comparable phone from MobileCiti is this one for $1088. Yes, still $10 cheaper, but some people like myself may want to walk into a local retailer and walk out with a phone, and most won't price match a site like MobileCiti.

Please explain how not having "network branding" (whatever that is - I've never seen/heard of it before) makes paying $100 more a good idea?

        • In my experience, "network branding" usually means there will be at minimum a splash screen with the Telstra logo, and several pre-installed apps that are usually not removable.

If you or others are not bothered by that, great! To each their own, we are each free to spend our money however we please and last I checked, this site was designed to share deals or price drops with others who might be interested in the same product, so while it might not matter to you, it did for me, and therefore potentially other people.

Considering how difficult it may be for someone to see why MobileCiti have seemingly identical phones listed at two different prices, I was merely pointing out that difference between your link & mine :)

If you actually are interested in the differences, they're discussed a little more here, specifically about a MobileCiti phone.

          @salted-caramel:

"last I checked, this site was designed to share deals"

It is, and the reasons you've provided do not justify paying another $100 when there is a better deal to be had from another merchant, hence you got a negative vote.

        • @Sir Casm: internet points really aren't my thing and don't bother my sense of self however I take it they must deeply affect you for you to mention them, as I hadn't even noticed I had received "a negative vote". Thanks so much for pointing it out.

And no, the reasons I provided do not provide justification for you spending $100 more on a network unbranded phone, which is fine, so move along and enjoy spending that $100 elsewhere :)

        • @salted-caramel:

Salty by name and by nature it appears… anyway you might want read of the Getting Started wiki entry to understand the basic concepts of the forum. Further, it looks like you need help with grasping the voting system and why it's important, so point your eyes this way.

        • +1

Network branded phone will usually rely on the network to push the update. Telco agnostic as salted put it phone will receive the update directly from manufacturer

In case you are asking retailer to price match Mobileciti, they have a brick and mortar shop in Parramatta.

        • I had tried this once previously at JB but being in QLD they wouldn't recognise an interstate store :( maybe I just had a narky salesperson that day, but as usual with any deal or offer ymmv, so it definitely wouldn't hurt to ask!

Why on earth would you spend that kind of money when you can have a brand new Note 3 for third of the cost? Yes, there are a few extra bits in Note 5: like a slightly faster processor, an extra gig of RAM, better camera and better screen resolution (in terms of PPI) but it also has a smaller battery and NO expandable storage!

I know a lot of people will disagree with me but given this price, I'd say buy a Note 3 and safe yourself a few hundred dollars!

    • I love my Note 3 too, but will need a better phone camera eventually. Maybe wait for note 5 or s6 edge drop below 500 …. :D

All the other faster cpu/ram are kind of useless.
