Panasonic Eneloop Mobile Booster $13.19 (RRP $30) @ Dick Smith Click and Collect

50

Saw this on Dick Smith today. Wanted to buy one for a while but it's always been around the $20+ for the last few weeks. $13.20 click and collect and looks like plenty of stock. Seems like a pretty good deal to me.

You be crazy to buy anything online from DS

  • I just did :(

    • +7

      You be crazy then.

      • +2

I think its probably fine as long as you pay with Paypal.

        • +2

You have protection with credit card too.

  • Recharge up to 500 times is a bit of a worry. Why are these eneloops unable to recharge 2100 times like the others?

    • +1

Because these do not in fact have Eneloop batteries inside them, they have a Panasonic Lithium Ion cell instead.

      • -1

Why does it say Eneloop in huge letters on the packaging? False advertising?

        • +2

          Panasonic own the name Eneloop.

They could put "Eneloop" on a chocolate bar, and it still wouldn't be false advertising.

  • I see people talk about Eneloops batteries a lot. What is everyone using them for? The only thing I have which takes batteries are my headphones.

    • +2

      Kids toys mainly for mine.

Xbox 360 controllers and occasionally my camera

    • I have two LED flashlights that take 4 AAs, one that takes three, and a few that take one. As an RC enthusiast I also have several radio control systems that take between 4 and 8 AAs depending on whether they are AM or 2.4GHz. I have a Celestron telescope with a motorized tripod that takes 8 AAs. I have a Zoom G2 guitar effects pedal that takes 8 AAs. And that's not including AAA remotes and everything else I can't think of right now.

      • hmm, i have RC too but I was always told not to use rechargeables because of the voltage differences (1.2V vs 1.5V).

I've been using them in my radio for years but on board (servos) I still use 1.5V….not sure if I should give it a go?

Unless I am mistaken this is just a normal powerbank with eneloop branding and marketing. Given that it is fairly low capacity and only outputs 1A I don't think it is a good buy. With larger batteries in newer phones this won't even provide a full charge, either.

    • Yeah they are a little dated for newer phones, and have been had for under $9 from DS in the past, which is probably a more suitable price for what you're getting.

Having said that, I got one ages ago when they were that price, which the missus has made good use of with her aging phone.

  • Perfect as presents. Bought a few of them last time.

I also used mine a few times when battery's died. It's really handy.

At this price why dont you get a xiaomi 5000mAh power bank? Its very portable and charge really fast.

This is a product where I can't understand why someone wouldn't spend a few more dollars for something vastly better. For about $20 I got a Xiaomi 10,000 mah.

I also wouldn't buy anything from DS unless it's in person in store. Even with PayPal/cc protection, it's a hassle you can avoid. Especially for such a mediocre product.

    • I have one of these and many other bigger, better versions. This one is good because it's small and light, so fits in a pocket, and it can be charged by Qi. While I have the the Xiaomi 10,000 this gets used more for those reasons.

      • Yeah same, this one is small, and I like that its cable hides away with the lid.

        • All good, different strokes for different folks.
Size/weight doesn't bother me, that's what my wife's handbag is for, no pockets here. But that's because the only situation I use mine is where I don't need to actually carry my devices around. Mine is primarily for camping.
I love that the Xiaomi charges very quickly. 1A charging is painful imo.

  • Small capacity, atrociously slow charging @ 1A and overpriced.

    Xiaomi over this anyday.

  • "Qi-compatible device"

    It does wireless charging?

    • +2

No, you can charge this device via a qi compatible charger. It works, but is sometimes difficult to get it in the right spot to charge

  • I got one for $7 about a year ago…

  • None left in chatswood chase. I got the last 3.
