  • I'm actually in the same boat. TBH I'm thinking about skipping the brands and just getting a generic OEM unit (actually a 2DIN DVD player).

How much were you looking at spending.

I bought my Sony Deck about 3.5 years ago from US ebay . It took a year before the same deck became available in Australia . I highly recommend getting a bluetooth deck with built in handsfree kit for your phone . No extra cables and works fantastically .

as a minimum get something with USB integrated. dont worry about AUX in so much as if you want to use an ipod or charge a phone a USB port is perfect. and being able to run a usb stick full of music straight off the stick is great.

i got mine at JB Hifi during a 25% off sale

  • Thankyou, it was for my son. He became impatent and bought it from JB. Thanks for your help.

I got into car audio late last year and learnt plenty from http://www.mobileelectronics.com.au/forums/index.php?act=idx

The forums have a buy/sell section however most of their components are expensive competition parts. What is your budget?

I spent $1,500+ on car audio parts and haven't been disappointed with my audio -
    Headunit - http://www.pioneer.com.au/Products/Car%20Entertainment/Visua…
    Fronts and splits - http://www.hertzaudiovideo.com/default_en.htm
    Rear - http://www.hotwire.net.nz/shop/car-audio/speakers/pioneer-ts…
    Amp - http://www.cadencestore.com/ProductCart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcat…
    Subwoofer - http://www.kicker.com/compvr

Sound deadening, upper market cables and proper installation makes a difference. Do not go to places like JB-Hifi and Ryda Car Audio for installation - from what I've read they do not do a proper job and use cheap cabling unlike specialist audio garages.

Car audio is a good example of 'you get what you pay for'. It's an expensive hobby =]
