MacBook Pro - Kogan

Hi,
with the recent ebay sale, seems like a good opportunity to pick up a macbook pro. Wife is due for an upgrade as her current MBP is 9 years old and getting pretty sluggish. Seems that sales are generally 10% off from JBhifi etc on the off occassion. Whats everyones thoughts on buying one from Kogan in terms of Warranty etc, can i bring back to apple if anything goes wrong.

Looking at one out of the following

Apple 13" MacBook Pro MF840 (2.7GHz i5, 256GB) $1775.00 after 20% off.. Officeworks $2111

Apple 13" MacBook Pro MF841 (2.9GHz i5. 512GB) $2137 after 20% off…. Officeworks $2570

Supposedly a new model is around the corner. The last model came out 294 days ago

  • Warranty on Apple computers is worldwide, and so you can take to an Apple store or approved repairer for warranty issues.

    • Yes, but what happens after the first year? If the stock is australian, you are covered under the ACL for the next couple of years as well (this applies to Apple too). But with Kogan it is not australian stock, sold to you by not australian company so you are not getting the same warranty in the end.

I would rather buy a refurbished model:

      • "This Product is offered and supplied by Kogan Australia Pty Ltd"
Some Kogan products are sold by Kogan AU and some by Kogan HK. These Macbooks specify that they are for sale by Kogan AU and therefore are subject to the ACL.

        • At least someone reads the fine print ;0

  • Interesting, may have to consider Kogan then, hopefully specs of the new ones come out by Sunday to compare how much of an upgrade they are going to be. Otherwise happy to save and get current model(considering the one she is using now is 9 years old already). Or other option is once released and current models drop in price get one then. Any history to see how much apple generally reduce they run out models by?

    • I don't think Apple sell their old gen laptops when they release a new one. You'd have to get it off a reseller/refurb/runout stock.

      • Sorry i meant, when they announce new models, i assume they start clearing out the current models at reduced prices. Not selling them side by side
