New Optus Plans 50GB+70GB = $49.99, 75GB+75GB = $59.99 with Download/Uploads Counted

1011

Called up Optus as I was thinking of moving to TPG but they offered me their new set of plans, apparantly released today!

$49.99 = 50gb + 70gb offpeak
$59.99 = 75gb + 75gb offpeak

Both prices include a $10 discount for bundling with home phone, but if you are currently getting any free months you'll lose them (thanks Nowheredotcom)

Peak = 12pm-12am
Offpeak = 12am-12pm

Both Downloads/Uploads are counted.

No details on their website yet.

If you're on one of their older plans (i was on 20/40) you'll also get doubled internet speed as these plans have 20mbps download and 512kbps upload. No lock-in contracts if you're not already on one. They also offered me $10/mo off my home phone. I was told the upgrade would apply from 1st May.

I have cable internet so I can't guarantee this offer goes with ADSL as well - maybe someone can confirm.

  • Yes, I just spoke to a Optus ISP Representative,

"Is this a cable service you're signing up or ADSL2+?

Standalone 30/60gb plan is $70 per month for 24 months, $109.00 after 24 months.
    Install fee is $248.

Bundled with a home phone or mobile plan in the same name the 30/60gb plan is $60 for the first 24 months and $99.99 thereafter.
Install fee with home phone is $0, with Mobile is $148."

Just change the 30/60 plan, with the new plan,I was just curious is there any need for a Tech to come and do a Installation if I already had Optus Cable with them? I canceled the account yesterday and tomorrow it will be cut off.

I just found out that they have actually good deals,so yeah…I canceled because it was expensive and was looking for a different provider.

However after finding out out about the new deals, I want Optus, so I'll have to pay $248 for Installation,or $0 if I'm bundled.

The thing is I want it under my name, not my Father's and was informed you wont get the bundled benefit if they are both not under the same name.

  • Going to call Optus about these new plans.
I'm on ADSL 12/24 with 3rd month free (only thing keeping me on Optus) and its just not enough data allowance.

Not expecting a $10 phone discount from Optus but if they can give it, all the better.
If they give the discount on phone, then I will be paying less than what I used to.
    Win. Win.

I just rang my friendly Optus Customer Support Person. She confirmed that the NEW plans will be available to start 26 April. As well as the change in the internet plans, they will significantly change the Fusion plans, which will include (I was told) 50GB of up/download, throttling to 256 after limit reached.

Interestingly, I was told that the 75/75 and 75/50 plans (from 26 April) will have a throttled speed of 64, which seems like the only part of this plan to absolutely stink.

I asked about what she could do now to help me out financially, and I have had a $10 discount applied to my internet account for the next 6 months to tide me over until I change to one of the new plans.

    Hope this helps

    • Also the speed. Speeds are capped to 20Mbit/s. Optus network capable of 40Mbit/s. When upgraded to DOCSIS 3.0 in June, up to 120Mbit/s.

  • I called optus and sadly was told they can not discuss the new plans only the 90GB plan for now, which stinks.

    • then ring up again and speak to someone different!!

my usual strategy is to get through to "disconnections", as they are generally more knowledgeable staff, and they have the added benefits of providing better pricing on plans too.

    • …or better still wait till they are officially released to the public/web! It's not the 26th April yet.

  • $49.99 = 50gb + 70gb offpeak

Just thinking long-term here …. is this price for the first 12 months? the first 24 months? …… will it remain this price afterwards?

    • yea this is one thing i would like to know

also if there is any other plans at a lower amount like a 39.99 plan

      • +1

Yep. Like I mentioned in an earlier post, there's a $40 plan with 10+20gb

    • yea this is one thing i would like to know

also if there is any other plans at a lower amount like a 39.99 plan

    • Get the info in writing from the Optus website (once officially released) before signing up. I don't think speculation or phone call transcripts from the Ozbargain site will stand for much if you sign up and discover the contract was not what you expected.

Good deal if it's real. Just rang up Optus on the number posted above and the sales guy doesn't know anything about it. He even called this a hoax. So for those that did, I would be interested to know if you have to go on a plan if you're already an existing cable customer?

Rang, AGAIN, finally got the answer i was hoping for. These plans have been confirmed. Rep I spoke to mentioned in India, they were told of the new plans yesterday. I believe this to be true because he was reading the plans word for word, in scripted form.

He confirmed it will be available for ADSL2 and Cable.

Def. deserves all the positive votes. Optus have been YEARS behind in data usage.

    • They probably realised how crappy their plans were and seeing the exodus of their customers to iinet, internode or tpg.

About time they woke up. I might come back - really depends on the length of the contract.

  • Definitely not a Hoax, I called again on the following number, 1300 300 693,right after my last post and the Guy I spoke to was Australian and knew about the deal.

I was going to go 90GB,however he said to wait and keep my current 20/40 for now, he set it up and it will take effect May 1st.

  • Anybody know if the usage decreases after 12 months of contract?

    • There is NO contract. Meaning, its on a month to month contract and Optus can change the plans whenever they want, once they have notified customers.

  • Just spent 30 minutes on the phone with Optus customer service (Indian) to get the new plan.

I am an existing customer currently not locked into any plans.

They've submitted a request for the plan to be in effect when it becomes available on 1st May.

Called Optus and got a consultant from India. I pretended that I wanted to cancel because the 60Gig plan was not enough for all 4ppl in my house. He then offered me the 3 new plans discussed here. I confirmed with him the following:

    • Starts on May 1st, but you can call on April 25th to change over to new plan.
    • No contract.
    • $50 downgrade fee.
    • peak/off-peak times stay the same (12hr cycle).
    • download speed is now 20m.
    • upload speed is 512k.
    • speed is 64k when over the cap.

He also told me how much I upload each month while on my 60gig plan, which is approx 20gig/mth. This means that currently, if I count upload & download, I'm using approx 80gig/mth, which means 1/4 of that is upload data.

So if I continue to upload 1/4 of my total quote, this is how much download I get:
    - 120Gig = 90Gig download
    - 150Gig = 112.5Gig download
    - 170Gig = 127.5Gig download

Saving I would get if I stayed with Optus are:
    - No contract term.
    - No contract transfer fee.
    - Save on new Telstra phone line & connection fee
    - Save on Telstra line rental fee (I pay $19 for Optus)
    - Save on new ISP joining fee
    - Save on new ADSL Modem

I've been with Optus (on/off) since they first started providing cable in our area and I've only had 1 issue. The 2 main advantage of joining TPG is they don't count upload data and if you go over your cap, its shaped at 1m.

Considering all that, I guess I will stay with Optus and go on their new plans when its available in April 25th. If upload data being counted becomes an issue, I can always cancel the Optus account and move over to a ISP that has a better deal.

    • I still have a 23months contract with them for the 30/60, if I "upgarde" to 70/70 would they cancell the contract? And the $ 60 plan 70/70 is that bundled with home phone?the standalone price is $70?

      • you don;t have a contract for the 30/60 you have a contract to stay with Optus. Have a look at Whirlpool.

    • How is it that you are paying only $19 for your phone line?

I thoguht the cheapest optus line rental is $29?

      • he might have $10 off/month discount for 6 months. you can call optus to give you a discount particularly if you are off contract.

        • That's what I thought, but he mentioned nothing of 6 months.

  • I just rang Optus disconnections, guy picked up within a few seconds. But the best plan he could put me on was a 24month contract for the 30/60. I'm currently on the old 12/24 for $65 a month.

What number is everyone calling to get this plan, the sales number?

    • +1

New plans are effective as of 1 May. you don't need to call now. You have one month to call them.

      • Indeed! People need to chill out a bit and surf the net till then!

    • call 133 345 for sales & info. I find those 2 depts are more helpful. I've rung the disc dept before for TV & cable and they were not willing to help at all, in fact they were more then happy for me to disconect. I guess they get less comission then the sales guys do, so they dont give a sheit.

      • For tv they can't care less as it's a money losing part of the business. But for cable, disconnections are always helpful. They can give you discounts no other person can at Optus. Off course you can only get one cable discount per year.

    • I use to be the 12/24, but they kept me with a 20/40 for 6 months at $65 (4 months free) AND NO UPLOADS thats about to expire I think…I just dont know either staying and loosing on uploads or goin TPG….hmmmm hard call…..

  • Has anybody enquired about the effect on those who are on fusion plans/new equivalent?

  • lol they just rang me about this deal

  • I would rather go for the aapt unlimited adsl2+ plans so i dont have to care about anything

  • calling some one now
    he has no idea
he is asking his manager :(

  • I'm on the phone at the moment as well. The guy I spoke to said plan would be available from 25th of April, but I'm now on hold while he talks to his supervisor.

  • called they know about the plan
    there is a
    29
    39
    49
    59
    plan

    • any details on the $29 or $39? Ive been happy with my optus 5GB for $39.95 lol. I only need a few gig more ideally.

  • Call the disconnection department 30 minutes ago. There will be a plan of $39,95 for 30Gb (10 Gb peak and 20Gb off-peak). Not sure about the $29.95.

The guy suggested me to call back after 25th April so they can make a good deal for existing customer.

  • optus called me, they were surprised when i brought up the new plans coming to effect before they told me about. I believe they mentioned something about this offer only being available to existing customers only
too bad i wasnt the account holder for them to explain any further.

  • This is a good deal for optus. I was planning on switching to to TPG but 75gb peak and 75gb off peak is more than enough for me. Can anyone confirm if this is available yet? many posters here have indicated they were advised to ring on the 25th, is this still the case?

    • I just called and signed up. Plans are affective after 25th April but you can sign up from now if you're an existing customer

  • just called, currently on a 129 fusion plan 30gb. They allowed me to upgrade to a 129 fusion plan 50gb.

  • Just signed up for the $49.99 plan. Very easy and no hassles. Couldnt get the $10 off home phone though, and i tried calling twice.

  • Optus called me today, funnily enough, and told me straight up that I was going to be on the new 75+75 plan next month and can't go back to the old plan. (I was on their 30+60 $60 plan.) Looks like if you're an existing customer you'll be upgraded automatically.

    • If true, that's amazing and a major shift from usually just leaving you on the current terms/price even after a contract expires!

  • you will be upgraded automatically as an existing optus customer, but if you want to downgrade after the 1st May, there's a $50 fee. If you downgrade before then, there's no charge.

    • uhhh i didnt get upgraded automatically, it's the first of May and I'm still on my old 7+14Gb "advantage" plan.

      • Same problem with me. I called them up, pushed a couple of buttons to try to get to speak to someone and there was an automated message saying something about if you changed your plan you could have to wait up to 24 hours from the first day of the month for it to apply.

I also received an email from optus, as they had promised:

        Hi
just confirming new internet plan will commence 1.5.10
inc 120GB of data as we discussed.

So I think its just a matter of time.

  • I am on Optus Fusion plan, did anyone upgrade to this internet plan while you were on Optus Fusion plan (unlimited Home phone+internet), I am on Optus $109 Fusion. I called now, it was a public holiday and they didnt know if it will work. Can anyone please help me in this?

    • …they didnt know if it will work

If by "they" you mean Optus. I would call again tomorrow. They are selling the product and the one you are paying money too. They should know and are the answers that count - not ours! Hopefully you will get an operator who can answer your specific question(s).

  • Just call Optus today. There is a $29.99 plan (with home phone) - 2Gb peak and 4Gb off peak.

  • so if i ring up their sales line now
can I get upgraded to the 50+70gb plan without having to sign a new contract? I'm currently on the granfathered 7+14GB yes advantage plan

  • Just swapped over from my 20-40 grandfather plan at $69 to the 150GB. No hassle, no extra contract etc. So I stay on my old $19 phone, get 150GB for $10 less. I'm impressed. It's bringing prices down to Exetel levels. Now if only they added some xbox live or steam servers…
