The Amp is pretty good, and not just for its price range.. it easily compares with my 150 creative.

  • I've been looking to get an amp to play around with… from reviews this seems to be bass heavy but might as well give it a go =)

    Thanks!

    -edit-

Also, not as good as last ostry deal… but the ostry kc06a can be had for $80.41 AUD

    • I frankly havent had any base problems, but that may be attributable to my elfish ears ;)

      • Going purely off reviews, I don't own one yet…. but soon!

  • +3

PSA Be careful with registration, password got emailed to me in plaintext…

    But cheers OP, great deal

  • +1

Damn ozbargain, didn't even know I needed one of these, but it's gotta be better than using a headphone splitter on planes.

    • I don't think you need these for the planes either lol. Just get yourself a plane adapter.

      • +4

Nah I mean if 2 people listen or watch the same device on the plane, this would give it a bit more power. My nexus 7 struggled to provide the volume we needed. This is my justification to myself don't ruin this for me haha

        • +2

Oh…. err….. this will make your listening even more…. erm…. REALISTIC!

Disclaimer: I have no idea what I'm doing….

@mavis30551: It's the grammar nazi flag. So yes, it is intentional.

ahh, Well that makes sense now

  • Just wondering, does the remote have volume controls and if so does it work with Android or IOS?

Edit: nvm, clicked on the specs and saw this:

    Compatibility for 3.5 mm Jack:
iPods, iPhones, iPads, MP3 Players, Android, Tablets and Phones & Other Audio Devices

Didn't know the volume controls were compatible across iPhones and Android?

    • Voume controls are compatible across android and iphone. its the playback controls that arent.

      • +2

other way around in my experience

      • Got mine yesterday, the volume controls work on android, which is rare I find. I didnt need the iems but for the price its a really good deal.

        • You got yours on Sunday? Nice!

        • @theguyrules: Picked up from my folks place, i don't trust stuff getting sent to my flat mailbox. pretty happy with the amp, really beefs up my me audio m6 pros.

  • What's difference between an AMP and standard volume controls?

    • +1

Amp amplifies signals, standard volume control do not.

      • +1

What does the Standard Volume Control do then? Or did I not understand the oversimplified response?

From a quick google, it seems amps are necessary to drive larger headphones and normally not used for small ear buds or NC headphones?

        • It depends on how the volume control does controlling but all of them cannot make the volume go above what your device that you've attached it to can. Where as amps are made so that they can go above the volume your device can get to.

        • this type of amp will make your sound more clear and better in comparison to normal volume control alone. The reason is that it contains much better sound amplification electronics inside. Cheap volume control amps tend to distort sound when volume is pushed too high for it to handle - This device wont distort sound as much at higher volumes.

    • Amp will further amplify the sound. If lets say your volume control is set at 3 and amp set at 3. The sound you hear will be more or less as if the volume control is set at 6. It will also alter the sound output based on the amp's sound signature

      Benefit:
      - For mobile device, conserve battery
      - Amp's sound signature can be more to your liking. For example more bass

Thanks. Is there any point to it if I am happy with the current volume levels of listening that my phone/source can push out?

        • Amps can also colour the sound like an equaliser, giving it a slightly different character. Really I wouldn't buy if you don't have headphones that require the extra power. The types of headphones that would benefit from amplification are usually $200+.

          @Jam0864:
Thanks, I think I'm out of my depth then. Cheers!

        • I plan to use the amp while watching videos on the iPad whilst on the train. The volume of some downloaded videos can be a bit low, in a noisy environment its difficult to hear even with the iPad on full volume. Additionally, if travelling with a friend, they can connect their headphones as well and watch the same video. Handy to keep in the backpack for the train, plane or a road trip. I recently used a non amplified splitter for a conference call with a colleage which worked quite well.

        • But this one goes to eleven. It's one louder.

  • should i buy this because of the amp or the free earphones? hummmm… decisions, decisions..

  • ljokerl review only or GTFO

  • damn, only if I didn't buy those xoaimi hybrids a while back.

    • Just imagine the hybrids with a boost with this AMP ;)

  • Would anyone recommend getting these for using with ATH-M50x and a computer with standard sound card?

    • Generally an amp will improve sound to large on ear headphones because many devices don't output enough power to drive large units properly. Better amps will have equalisers to configure the sound. Even better amps will have a DAC to give you better sound. It all depends on how much you want to spend.

Really, if you're happy with the M50's currently then you can save yourself $30, but $30 is a good price for a portable headphone amp from a -somewhat- recognisable brand.

    • I strongly recommend no. Save your money and put it towards a quality sound card.

If you already have a home theatre amplifier then consider using it to power the ATH-M50x instead of a portable amplifier.

The BrainWavz AP001 is too small an amplifier to produce any sort of amplification except more bass for small earphones/IEM. I own a more powerful device, the Topping NX1 portable headphone amp, it struggles to provide improvements for my Alessandro MS-1 which is waaaay easier to power than the ATH-50x.

      • It should have enough power to get louder. I use a fiio e6 with my Beyer T1 when I'm in the loo. Sounds absolutely horrendous, but it does get adequately loud.

  • Thanks for the extra code!

$29.84 USD Delivered. You should really have that in the title, our dollar is very different from the American dollar now.

No, its ~$30 AUD delivered. Read the post, use the code.

  • Has anyone ever used a headphone amp in their car?
I have a 3.5mm connector in my car, however, I find that the volume that comes across from my phone is relatively low. Further, the fidelity of the sound seems rather low (noticeable when I crank up the volume of the stereo). I'd like to use the amp to increase the volume of the sound output from the phone into the stereo.
    Thoughts?

    • Have you checked the volume of your phone when you auxed to your car audio?

Majority of phones have different volume control when you hook the audio cable.

I personally have never had issues with hooking my phone to car stereo. What phone are you using atm?

      • I put the volume all the way up. The phone is an LG G4. Volume is fine for headphones.

        • My LG G4 is a touch too quiet, at least for my HD558s. Thats what I got the amp for.

    • Double amping. Get a head unit that accepts digital input or line level inputs. Throwing a 3rd amp into your system is just gonna increase distortion.

  • Perfect timing. Heading overseas and this will make the flight much easier as the plane noise tends to override even full volume on two decent set of headphones with a regular splitter. Cheers OP

How long will the 120mAh internal battery last? its saying upto 12 hours of usage but im seriously doubting that given the tiny capacity.

Nonetheless I've been Ozbargained and bought one :S

  • Code doesn't work anymore :(

  • Got it today. wow this earphones are good, nice fit.

  • Earphones are nice but mine broke 2nd use.

    • Sorry to hear that, these are the cheapest brainwavz make. But having said that there is a one year warranty I guess. They should honor it. Call them up.

      • Yeah I'm getting it sorted with mp4nation. Will be a while til I get a new pair but at least I have the amp for now!
