Kogan iPhone 6 64GB ($800) or Aus Stock Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge ($1250)

I have a bit of a dilemma.
Background: Currently have a iphone 5, battery is getting terrible and the storage is quite limited (16gb). So basically I'm looking to upgrade.

Currently there is a ebay coupon that allows me to get a grey import Iphone 6 64gb for $800.
Or I can purchase the new Samsung S7 Edge 32gb (expandable memory) with the VR headset for $1250.

I'm really struggling to make up my mind here. I think the ebay coupon ends at 12, so I must make a fast decision if I want this iphone. I take care of my phones, never lost one or cracked a screen. I just can't seem to make up my mind if I want to buy an exceptional older phone for cheap or simply go all out and get the top of the line phone.

Can someone help me out or tell me what decision you would make?
thanks guys

I would never pay $1000+ for a Samsung, their value plummets over the course of the year.

Can you wait till iphone 7? The 6 will have better deals then.

    • I can't wait for the iphone 7 unfortunately. I could probably wait for the iphone SE which is apparently coming out in a month. But yeah thanks for reminding me that samsung phones do decrease in value.

  • The new features of S7 outweighs S6, better battery, expandable storage, better low light camera and dust/water proof. The battery is a big plus if you are going for S7 edge. I ve ordered my S7 edge recently and was in a similar confusion myself.
I'm on $30 telstra prepaid with my old phone, so getting S7 edge on a plan with virgin works out better for me, than buying outright. Also Optus has similar plan. I've opted for $70 plan($40 plan+$30 phone)
    Outright cost for S7 edge = $1250
    Total cost on a 24 month plan = $30 x 24 = $720

  • I'd go for the iPhone 6, seems like one of those phones that will last as well as hold it's value over time. It's probably worth about $600-$700 used at the moment? (Open to correction)
I'm sure you'll appreciate the marginally increased battery life as well (although compared to the S7 it's utterly disappointing). I feel as an iPhone 5 user you may have chargers set up wherever you are (home/uni/car)? It'll serve you well to keep all your current accessories

Plus if you're invested in iOS it seems like the better option.
The Samsung S7 Edge is a brilliant phone but imo isn't worth anything over $900

    Hope this is helpful :)

    • 64GB tend to go for around $750 on eBay
