Recommend someone in Melbourne for laminate flooring?

Hi,

Has anyone had any first hand experience with an experience installer (possibly supply as well) for laminate timer flooring?
We are looking to get our townhouse done which includes stairs as well without spending a small fortune.

Cheers

  • Do it yourself, laying floating floor is probably the easiest job in the building game, you'll actually enjoy doing it!!!

    • This! I did the bedrooms and loungeroom at my place for what it would have cost to get really, really terrible carpet installed.

It does get a little fiddly around the edges, wardrobes, bay window in my case etc however it's easy enough.

I cheated a little and purchased 30x30mm square mouldings, mitre cut them and painted them the same colour as my trims as opposed to using the edging they provide. This meant that in some areas where I was a little bit off (more than the 9mm those things cover) it still looked the part :).

I'd opt to take the skirting boards off if you can be bothered though.

      • I'm not sure I have the tools or expertise to complete the job. The laying looks straight forward enough but I'm also wanting to do the skirting boards as well as transitioning off a section to stairs.

Also part of it will also be floating over existing tiles which may need to be leveled.

        • You'll need a circular saw, a block of timber, a hammer, a tape measure. They are tongue in groove. Start in far corner and work back toward the entry. Offset the boards so they resemble a half bond brick pattern. Use the block of timber to tap the boards together with the hammer. Rinse and repeat. It is very simple and rewarding. Without experience you should still be able to manage 25 square meters a day and you'll only get better at it. As for the tiles … Just get an underlay that will distribute the unevenness. For transition into another flooring material (carpet/tiles) get a metal profile trim that you butt the boards into.

        • As Kywst said below you don't need anything particularly complex or expensive. I used a jigsaw to do my cuts rather than a circular saw however I'm sure either would suffice.

  • go for vinyl planks much easier for edges etc.
They also look as good as floating floor boards.
