Thanks to lzefyre for the heads up on the code

Fantastic deal for an awesome recent HTC flagship - doesn't appear to be locked to Optus at all, either.

$319.20 with free shipping - use the C20TECH code.

Phone is network unlocked.

Mod: The deal had been temporarily suspended by eBay due to a code error (the landing page has also been removed). However the listing is now removed/item out of stock.

hehe HTC recent flagship? is that a dig at the M9? :P

Everything about this phone is great, but the camera really lets you down :(

    • +3

I think the camera performed really well for what it was designed to do - quick happy snaps, especially in low light.

      • +3

They gimped the M8 camera by removing OIS which was present in the M7. That and making the lens cover out of some crappy material that scratches very easily. All my photos look like I smeared vaseline over the lens.

I miss my M7, if only the battery life didn't suck so much…

        • and if only the charging port was deeper than 2mm

        • That and making the lens cover out of some crappy material that scratches very easily

It might actually be the AR coating that's worn out. Try and wipe it all off with alcohol hand sanitizer and some tissue. You have to apply a bit of pressure.

          @legiong:

and if only the charging port was deeper than 2mm

Hmm, I never noticed it being shallow.

        • Yup, its the most frustrating thing ever. I swear there is also no auto-focus feature as well. The thing just sucks

        • @eug:
I (and others I know) had serious issues getting the charge cable to stay in after the phone was about 12 months old.
Even with brand new cables (which the internet said would solve the problem) didn't work, you plug it in to charge and have to very gently set the phone down and very gently let go of the phone.

If you so much as fart in its general direction, the USB cable will fall out of the port.

          So infuriating.

        • @legiong: Hmm ok. I didn't have that problem with mine, and I had it for maybe just under a year. My friend got his at the same time as me and didn't have that problem either.
Another friend has had hers for about 2 years now and hasn't had that problem so far.

        • @eug:
I just googled it, other people have the same issue with some fixing it with a new cable. Sadly that never worked for me and just had to be delicate as hell with the phone when charging it.

I was so relieved that the M8 has a full depth USB port, I've never had any problems with it and it's almost 2 years old.

        • @legiong: Ahh sorry, I thought you were talking about the M8 all along! I had my M7 for about a year and didn't have that problem. Sold it to a friend and she hasn't complained so far. :)
I wonder if the M10 will be good enough to rescue themselves.

        • @eug:
lol, sorry, i see how that happened.

        • @legiong:
I had this problem with my M7 after some time - turns out it was lint in the USB socket (pushed right down the end).
I've seen this issue with a couple of iPhone's as well (the lightning port).

Perhaps try clearing out the socket?

        • @spaij:
Cheers! I'll give that a go.

    best phone I've owned.
I can't wait for the M10, but judging by the M9 who knows if the M10 will beat the M8?

    • It's called the HTC 10, and it improves in every way with monster specs, and a gorgeous new design, but loses the front facing stereo speakers - which is a huge mistake imo

      • Well, the M9 was supposed to be better than the M8.
I'll reserve my judgement until after it's released.

        • The M9 was known to be a disappointment from the start, but I see where you're coming from

  • Good Phone, still have it and use it as a spare. Received Marshmallow not long ago. Highly recommend if you are on a budget.

  • I like the way that Optus have reduced the price from $399 to …….$399!
I think they're letting ebay do the work here

  • I'm still rocking one of these, and I'm pretty happy with it.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better phone for the price.

  • This phone is awesome, I still use it every day. For this price I could buy another one, but maybe not :D

Camera for me is great as I need this type of low light easy to use point and shooter. Specially love the way I can adjust brightness of each photo just by tapping on the screen before taking the photo. It makes my work almost too easy ;)

  • I've owned this phone for just over a year now but just bought myself a new Nexus 5x. I couldn't deal with the crappy camera and the unbearable lag.

  • is it locked or not? The listing says unlocked but op post changed to say its locked?

    • +3

The item description on eBay clearly says "Item Condition: BRAND NEW - UNLOCKED"

It was a mod who made the edit to the OP - which is clearly incorrect. I am sure he/she will change it back when the deal resumes. :)

  • I was just successful with using the code. Seems to be working YAY!

    • YAY for HTC!!! <Target music plays in the background>

  • It worked for me too..thanks

  • I miss my HTC M7. I upgraded to the Samsung S6 Edge and yes the Camera is a lot better but the HTC had a lot of more intuitive features.

Must admit that I would be tempted to buy this but I just spent $240 on getting my S6's screen repaired.

  • is this phone locked to optus only?

    • You might wanna read the op.

    • From the ebay listing

      "Lock Status: Network Unlocked"

  • +1

Just to confirm, the handset is not locked. I have an Optus handset and it worked straight away with my Telstra SIM, no unlocking was required.

  • i had mine for two years and it keeps turning off when battery setiings reach 12% or less, then all the memory and app settings are reset… running 6.0 stock. quite annoying

    • Same problem too

  • Could someone please let me know when this deal is live again? Just checking comments of every thread is very time-consuming. :P

    • I just tried it and it worked for me

      • really? are you messing with me? :P I can't get it to work. :(

        • Just leave your mobile no here and we will let you know 😄

        • nope, not messing with you.
I just added it to the cart and then added the promo code and it showed up as $319.20

        • +1

@marcmc: yeah, but upon checking out on paypal it went back to the original price of $399.

And now the phone is completely sold out… sigh…

  • Same here. Missed out due to stupid ebay failcode.

  • So was this code dodgy in some way?

  • +2

    Back in stock.

Just bought one for my dad to replace his Moto G.

  • Has anyone been able to get a tax invoice? Optus Store rep says they only use the one auto-generated by eBay and I can't find any form of it, that shows GST paid.

  • Has anyone had theirs shipped yet?

    • No.

      • It was estimated to be Thursday to Monday. Let's see how that pans out.

      • Alright. Just received an SMS from Optus saying that it's due for delivery with StarTrack today.

        • nice, so did I. :)

        • @bluedufflecoat: were you able to get a decent tax invoice from them? I purchased a different item during this sale and after asking repeatedly for an invoice they sent me a crappy microsoft word version that doesn't have their logo or ABN (thus useless for GST refund)….

        • @strawberrybug: I didn't get my invoice on time (traveled 5 days before it got to me!) :(

There is no logo, but it does have ABN. It says GST included but did not mention how much the GST amount was. It was attached in eBay messages, but the quality is poor. If it had arrived on time, I would have asked them to re-do it. But since they missed the boat on that one, I didn't pursue it.

        • @bluedufflecoat: Thanks blue, I might try asking if they can re-do but also thinking it might just be easier to fake it myself! It was clearly a word doc which they pdf'ed and sent to me.
