Moving from electric stove to gas

We are currently renting our house and it got electric stove in it. We are two and we both work full time. Our cooking in electric stove takes more time because it takes 10 mins to heat up and 10 mins to come down. Everyday we have to spend around 1.30 hrs for cooking. I feel its better to move to gas to reduce cooking time and to get good taste but as we are renting, its bit hard for us to change. We don't want to move from this house until we buy one and it may take a year.

So I am thinking to buy any of the following gas camp stove and use it outside along with 9kg LPG cylinder.

or

Both stoves got 12000 BTU or more in each burner.
1.I dont have any idea about how long 9kg cylinder is going to last with this BTU. Is it really worth the price?
2. Also is anyone use the mentioned stove?

Looking for some suggestions and feedback

I did consider induction but I think gas would be more beneficial for us because we often cook stir fry, boiled rice, thai and indian curry.

What do you guys thinks about this? how beneficial and economical it would be?

Thanks Guys!

Take a look at induction stoves, they are best of two worlds.

    • I could boil a small pot of water in about 15 seconds from cold with induction… Superior to gas IMO.

Edit: I should say we cooked stir frys, currys, etc.. The missus is Malaysian so she was satisfied with it… Make sure you get good cookware.

  • Buy a good BBQ, one with a proper hood and side burner. Gas cooking plus gas grill, plus usable at the new place :)

  • I moved out of my own house which had gas to a rental with ceramic cooktop. Within a week I was fed up and bought a cheap ($40) Eurolab portable induction unit from crazysales. Then a twin unit advertised here, but it is 15A, and doesn't work as well (different power presets)
You get what you pay for, so for me, to simmer something on low power, the unit pulses like a microwave which means it gets too hot for a bit, then pauses etc. I certainly miss the gas in this regard, but at high temps, its just as good and quick!! Your pots and pans have to be compatible of course. Certainly fills the void til I get gas again, Saying that, My Camping gas cooktops are used only for camping and I wouldn't recommend them for daily use.

  • Your cooktop is probably an older model, which has the problems you describe, slow to heat up and not hot enough. Gas cooktops produces "better taste" because the fire is much much hotter than your electric cooktop. You will find that induction will also produce "better taste". I think in your situation, you could look at a portable induction cooker like others have said. One thing to watch out for though, I think they don't work with aluminium pots. You may need to change pots.

I think moving to gas is not a good idea. Electric cooktops have improved a lot nowadays. I got my electric cooktop from ikea last year, and the heat settings go up to 9, I normally cook on 7, otherwise things will burn! I used to have a gas cooktop. I would never go back. The amount of time I needed to spend cleaning the gas stove was not funny. Now, I just wipe down my cooktop and I am done. Also, my cooktop has a timer function, which is handy sometimes, if I needed to boil pasta or eggs.

  • We switched from gas to electric. Got fed up paying $55/quarter for gas supply and $5 in usage. Only thing connected was the gas stove. If I had heating (have deducted aircon) or hot water (solar hot water + rare electric boost), then I'd have left the gas stove.

If you want hot hot, for wok cooking, get a Rambo wok burner. I cooked up a stir fry in about 3 minutes last night. I've had a carbon wok glowing red
