Ok so going to a 40th birthday soon (male) and will need to take a present - what are presents that are cheap yet thoughtful or even look expensive but aren't lol - you know true Ozbargain style if you know what I mean ?

register for a club thing and get free birthday meal
Go to somewhere like the Fig Cafe for dinner (free meal)
After that go to The Aviary for free Cocktail for the birthday boy (if he drinks)
If you're talking present-wise, get him an alright card card with cash
