Recommendations for Purchasing Keyless Digital Door Locks

Hi All,

Thinking of replacing our home door locks from a key to one of those fancy keyless ones I saw in Korea.

Anyone have any tips or any dealers they recommended to buy from and install those? Or any locksmiths around the Sydney area that doesn't charge exorbitant fees for installation.

I have one quotation from a dealer in Sydney
Compared his prices to Bunnings but since he installs it his installation charge seems to be a bit much.
Samsung models

  • SHS-3321: $480 cash price (Bunnings 289)
  • SHS-H505 (difficult to install): $900 cash price (Bunnings 399)
  • SHS-P717 (difficult to install): $1050 cash price (Bunnings 549)

  • We have a Samsung lock version with both PIN and card entry. What we are waiting for is something with PIN, card and deadlock version. The man installed it without too much trouble.

  • if you just wanted a basic number pad door lock, Click and collect at Masters St. Mary's has some stock on them for $89 seems popular from the last deal

  • I fitted a kevo lock. Bluetooth or key fob opening as well as normal key

  • we have the lockwood 001touch - http://www.bunnings.com.au/lockwood-001touch-keyless-digital…

$320 from bunnings. Real good and handy for us! Easy(ish) to install yourself also :)

  • Thanks for the advice guys, those cheap ones look a bit ugly I'll just have to call up locksmiths on the yellow pages for installations.

  • These things any secure?

In this time of 'hacks' etc….a digital lock is something I've always had reservations about.

    • If someone really wants to get into your house they can just smash a window.

The whole idea of locks is to make the payoff of the crime (breaking in) more trouble than it's worth. Even these cheaper locks will be okay to secure most normal family homes. If you're protecting a jewellery heist or a drug stash, I'd get something better.

  • Think about the way your door opens/closes currently. Deadlatch or Deadbolt? Deadbolts are cheaper but door must be closed for them to work so you'll have another'latch' on the door to hold it closed - either that or a roller. Battery powered locks need to be "woken up" to use. Anything connected to the interwebs may be seen as risky but the perks of mobile access or operation are worth the risk. What the-mal said is spot on.
