Asus G551VW worth it?

Hey guys,

I'm thinking of getting this laptop for a bit of light gaming, music production and photo editing. Shopping express is offering it at 1500 and they have a ram special today so another 8GB DDR4 ram is like 49 bucks. What are your thoughts about this laptop and if it's worth buying? The specs look pretty good and I'm kinda tired of paying a premium for a new Macbook so I've decided to go the windows route. Please advise!

  • Can't go wrong, battery, weight and the matte screen is a bit of a compromise but the price is good.

  • I don't have this laptop at all, but I do have the Asus G75VX (also an ROG laptop), and I've really been loving it, it seems the Nvidia card gets updated drivers very regularly through Geforce Experience with optimizations specifically made for games. I've also noticed updated drivers coming out to fix game problems quite quickly. On top of that my laptop stays really cool and I've never had a heat problem with it, and runs really quickly.

Basically I'm really loving everything about it, and I bought it years ago and it still feels new to me. From what I'm seeing it seems like the laptop you've posted is better then mine in basically all functions (except I have an SSD which I'm in love with) so I'm hoping you will get an even better experience then me. Only neg I have is my laptop is heavy as anything!!

I will say I did have to deal with Asus warranty a few times and it hasn't been amazing, it wasn't bad either, but I guess you would say its typical for most companies.

Unfortunately I can't comment on the price though, I got mine for $1800 from MSY.
    FYI:
It seems like MSY has the G551VW-FW149T with the following specs for $1895

    64bit OS: Windows 10 Home
    RAM: 16GB DDR4
    HDD: 256GB SSD
Graphic: Nvidia GTX 960M Graphics, 4GB Dedicated VGA
    Screen: 15.6” FHD LED Screen(1920X1080)
