Help Needed to Choose a TV Player/Recorder

Hi, I have a store credit and need to choose between 2 options,
an LG HR836T HD Tuner 500GB Recorder 3D Blu-Ray Player at $307 or
an LG HR949T 1TB Twin Tuner 3D HDD Recorder with Blu-Ray Player @ $499
At present we have a Panasonic TX-32LWD500A television. Over time we have had various VHS, DVD, HDD recorders which have all been deficient in some respect. We are now using an HDD recorder but it doesn't record hi-def channels and sometimes wipes itself. I would appreciate advice as I'm hopeless at this sort of stuff and would like to get the purchase right this time.
Ideally, I'd like to record to HDD mainly but transfer shows I'd like to keep to a disc and also play DVDs. Many thanks in advance.

Where's the store credit for? Given you have a Pana TV, can I ask why you haven't looked at a Pana recorder?

I was looking at this myself the other day too given 7flix and Ten HD are now broadcasting in MPEG-4 and my PVR is only MPEG-2 compatible. I have a Topfield that is still running after 8+ years and linked to Ice TV EPG so I can setup series recordings etc. Here is a shortlist of PVR's you could also look at
    Humax
    Topfield
    BeyonWiz

The Humax 1000T looks pretty good at $500 from Good guys as it has 4 tuners and the capability of using HbbTV catch up tv services from all the free to air providers. You can also use it as a DLNA media center allowing you to stream recorded shows to other devices such as Tablet, Smart Phones etc and transfer to your computer hard drive so no need to burn to a disc.

  • Thanks Spackbace and Cabrinha for your replies. Actually, Spackbace, I've just seen the Panasonic DMR-BWT450GL Blu-Ray Recorder with 500GB HDD & Twin HD Tuner on the store website. I Imagine this would be a good fit for me?? It looks like it records to disk and HDD and also records 2 HD channels simultaneously. Would I be able to watch a 3rd channel while recording, I wonder? I've been looking for reviews on the web but haven't found anything useful (or perhaps I should say, comprehensible to me :).
Cabrinha, I have just found very bad reviews on the LG - http://www.lg.com/au/dvd-blu-ray-players/lg-HR836T. Many thanks

No, because it only has 2 tuners.

I just think it might be more convenient, being able to use the remote for both player and TV functions. As to price vs features, that's entirely up to you :)
