Took my sisters kids for a play & ice-cream at the local HJ's playground as a reward today and the near always packed place (it's on a busy main road) was completely empty. I commented on it to the girl behind the counter and she said they removed the $2 board and all the cheap items almost completely & had increased prices a few weeks ago. She said they've seen a whopping 95% reduction in numbers putting through orders and that last week was bad enough that apparently the owners were considering selling up. The nail in the coffin apparently was the removal of the 2-for-1 Tuesday that brought in heaps of people that also bought other stuff at the same time, where as now basically no one buys anything unless it's using one of those 2-for-1 burger voucher sheets & those customers don't seem to buy anything additional when they come any more.
I hope the frozen cokes are still $1. Maccas is a bit closer to me, but I've been buying it off HJ for some years instead, just because they took the initiative to sell it at $1 instead of the $4-5 Maccas was charging, forcing Maccas to sell them at $1 now.
