Looking for a good offline ePub reader software (win)

Hi guys,

For my study and work purposes, I am looking for a good ePub reader software with good note-taking options. I have a few dozen academic books that are hundreds of pages each. I like how reading on google books allow multiple colours of highlighting, but that is online only so unsuitable.

it needs to be able to work offline.
for Windows 10
strong annotation functions - prefer multiple colour highlighting, underlining if possible, add annotations functions.
i am happy to pay for good software. (have already spent a small fortune on the books).

Calibre is too complex for my need, and its reading experience is not that great. I am using Adobe Digital Editions, but I'm looking for more annotation/highlight functions.

any suggestions will be much much appreciated,

The Kindle app is pretty good with multiple highlight colors. You do need to convert to Mobi though

well unless you pay $$$$ for a epub reader then you wont get anything you like
