Movies - Buy 2 Get 1 Free @ JB Hi-Fi

100

Hey All,

The Buy 2 Get 1 Free deal on Movies is back! Woo Hoo!

Do not buy now - wait for the 20% off sale which should be any weekend now.

Pity that they still have the 3 for $40 sale on blu rays going - otherwise they could have incorporated those titles into this sale as well.

Maybe next time?

Cheers.

So…. the deal is on, but don't go for it??

    • I was just thinking the same thing.

    • yep - wait for the 20% off thing.

Has anyone noticed lately that the price of new releases fall much quicker than previously? Perhaps it's them trying to compete with streaming?

I used to wait 6+ months after a the release of a blu-ray for them to drop to the sub $20 range/become a part of the multi-buy deals. Titles like Straight Outta Compton, The Walk, MI5, Legend etc have been out on blu-ray for 1-2 months and are already $15.98, or if purchased as part of this deal, just over $10. Even cheaper with 20% off!

    • the rate of price decrease has been generally consistent over the last couple of years - Disney and Marvel (excluding the XMEN Franchise which is owned by Fox) products excluded -

    • Damn glad you mentioned those. Figured they'd still be around $20. Hopefully American Ultra has dropped too. Bring on 20% off!

    • I've certainly been less keen to purchase Blu-rays now that I have HD streaming. Some are just not worth it or harder to justify unless there's some interesting extras and/or amazing uncompressed audio track. For movies and especially TV shows where the audio is good enough with lower bitrate Dolby Digital, I've even bought iTunes HD versions instead or to add to my Blu-ray box, or has a 3D version.

Fair enough. I was big on blu-ray until streaming came along, then I sold about half of my blu-ray collection as I didn't 'need' it on blu-ray.

I have since come full circle as I have purchased my first projector. There is a noticeable difference between blu-ray and Netflix, so now I am back into blu-rays haha. The difference is not as notifiable on my TV though. Generally blu-ray is so clear that I can usually tell if it was filmed on celluloid film or digital, where as HD streaming is softer and such detail isn't noticeable.

My general rule is if a movie is great enough, AND gets a good video rating on blu-ray.com, I'll get the blu-ray, otherwise Netflix is good enough. Audio is not a big deal for me as my current audio setup is pretty crappy.

        • I've bought discs to "make up" deals and many are probably not "keepers". I remember holding off playing Red Cliff till I upgraded my system to support uncompressed audio. Wow, amazing! Definitely should consider getting at least a good surround sound set up. You can adjust to the HD video quality, but where some movies have amazing surround, you really shouldn't waste the opportunity.

        • @quarrymaster:

The main reason for my shitty system is I am living with in-laws and currently have my 59" plasma (great picture) set up in a small room with old 5.1 system.

currently building a house which will have 120" projector and new sound system. There are a few movies I own which I feel like re-watching on blu-ray (Lawrence of Arabia, blade runner) but part of me says "wait til you move into the new house" to experience it on the big screen with good audio set up!

        • @edshays:

Everyone needs something to look forward to!

    • Probably because I download those in HD on first day of bluray release /shrug

  • Any recommendations? The Mrs wants interstellar so i need 2 more at $16 price

Some good new stuff in there - Legend, MI 5…..

So many classics: Sharknado, Piranha 3D, Human Centipede… but I'd probably go with San Andreas 3D.

Big eyes is a great true story, I was skeptical but it was a real hook very quickly
End of Watch is a funny & emotional cop movie in a camcorder style. Not your typical "AMericah rawks!" cop movie.
Nightcrawler is also a very cool movie, about independent camera crews filming accidents and murders and selling the footage.
Flight, based on the true story of a partying pilot who crashes a passenger plane then struggles with the investigation and alcohol/drugs.
Book of Eli, post apocalyptic movie about a man who has the urge to trek east and comes across bandits & old west style settlements. Incredible story imo.
and my fav Sci Fi movie of recent, Edge of Tomorrow.

      • Edge of Tomorrow

Is that the Tom Cruise one? Heaps of fun, and I really love Emily Blunt.

  • "Do not buy now - wait for the 20% off sale which should be any weekend now."

Sage advice, spoken like a true ozbargainer! I always tell my family the same thing, JB have the 20% off almost half of the weeks in a year (slight exaggeration).

I suspect (as others have before) that the 20% off sales are subsidised by the everyday price which should be lower. Still, JB are decent when it comes to deals on Blu-rays and box sets.

    Cheerio for the deal!

  • 20% off might not be till mid March though if they still follow the same pattern

    • That should work - the deal expires 10/04/16. I have just updated the post.

    • I expect there's going to be one around the Labour day weekend. No insider information, just from past tracking of sales

      • thats state specific right? i dont believe theres one in NSW?

        • Yes, it is state specific as to the public holiday but the sale usually coincides with it nationally.

  • Anybody else notice the delivery has increased to $1.69, per item.

    • Yep, I noticed this around a couple of weeks ago….

    • They sent an email out. Due to Australia post increasing postage costs unfortunately :(

      • Yeah, Austraia Post increase postage costs while also increase shipping times.
Makes it worse now if you are getting a few things delivered from JB Hi-Fi as postage will add up very quickly. Is there a reason why they have shipping per item and not order?
