So im thinking of getting the netgear D7000 if i can get officeworks to price match with harris technology but ive been reading up these ac1900 modems and some have issues with firmware and also certain dsl lines so in case the D7000 doenst quite work correctly in my house, what is the return period for modems at officeworks?
Will i get a refund or a replacement? I would rather a refund and then try the dsl-ac68u which OW dont sell

I don't think there's a set limit, but I'd use your judgement (eg it's not going to be in "original condition" if you use it for a month).
Trying it out for a day or so would seem pretty reasonable. Just be sure you don't damage the unit in any way otherwise they may not accept it.
Just chat to them up front though, what you're wanting to do is perfectly reasonable - let them know that you want to buy it but aren't sure whether it'll work in your home, so you want to go and test it for a day and if it doesn't give decent service you want to return it for a refund. Then when you go to return it if you get any grief you can just refer them to the person you bought it from. Covers all bases that way.

Our return policy is fairly generous, as long as you keep the packaging you'll be fine to return it in a few days if it doesn't work out.
I've returned an iPhone 6 128GB that i used for 2 months and they were fine with it lol

This was before the 6s Came out.
Not fond of Android anymore - Worked with google for over a year and they installed something on my phone without my knowledge so i moved away from Android to iPhones for this reason.
well got them to price match and bought it
i asked the guy at the counter on return periods and he said 2 weeks so will stick to that
Here is OfficeWorks return policy which shows that change of mind purchases can be refunded as long as they are in original condition in original packaging with original receipt.
I've returned tech stuff to OW before no problems.
