Street Fighter 5 - (Rubbish)

I can honestly say that I played this game for a combined 30-45mins and have exited the game with no real intention to return. I am more than satisfied playing Ultra Street Fighter 4 as this carried on the legacy (to an extent) of the great Street Fighter franchise.

Here are a number of problems with the game:

  • New Super (V) mode is complicated
  • The entire menu has changed and you can no longer just click a button to have a quick fight, you either fight in a survival game, story, or online battle
  • The story mode sux, you play against 4-5 opponents with a shitty dialogue in between each fight
  • 60% of the real Street Fighter players are missing
  • Introduction of new players such as FANG, Rashid, is a total waste

The only good thing about this game was the GFX, else stay away or wait till the game drops to $10.00

  • Thanks for the update.
    Usf4 till perfection

    • I have Ultra SF 4 and recently bought SF 5 because I'm a sucker for SF. I was literally horrified at the game design.
Everything has changed so much that it feels like playing a mash up of Fatal Fury / Dead or Alive and Street Fighter Alpha

Most fight dialogue are pussy chats like:

Fighter A: Hey, I wish to fight you! you seem like a good opponent
Fighter B: OK! lets go, as long as you buy me lunch
      (fight over)
Fighter A: Thank you for that, I learnt a lot from this match!

best is street fighter II, the old 2D games on arcade machine box (the one you need to insert coins, with joystick).

  • I had grown tired of SFIV around a year or two ago. I bought SFIV and SSFIV but didn't bother with USFIV, just borrowed it a bit, played the new characters, and returned it. It was great, but no longer felt fresh.

SFV does feel fresh. The V-trigger and V-skill moves aren't complicated at all (HP+HK or MP+MK respectively), they're different for every character and mix things up quite a bit. The feel of the combat is very good.

I like the new characters and returning characters. No real duds like Hakan, I feel. Rashid is really fun, especially.

Survival mode is almost like arcade mode, but the AI is currently rubbish. I've been playing against my friend in the US who's on a PS4, though I'm on a PC, with no issues. Story mode is brief but the big story mode is coming for free in June.

Pretty much all the coming updates will be free, so I don't mind buying it at the current lowest price and getting more updates and challenges in the future.

Overall, I think it's good and will become great (like SFIV did over time - hey that started as a Japan-only arcade release with 16 characters).

  • They released a half completed game - not even a simple arcade mode

  • I can't even go online. games broken

  • I like this. Sure, if you've been playing SF 4 ultra for years then this game is completely different, your old combos and setups dont work no more. Perfect for me as i'm transitioning from keyboard to stick so it's a good time to learn along with the other beginners.

Online is lacking i have to say. I turn on casual and ranked duels while in training mode and gets a fighter every few minutes. Make sure you go into battle settings and change the connection of your opponent to 4-5. Wasn't able to find this setting in battle lounge though….

  • I'm a massive fan of the series but got burned out in the IV series and never did get Ultra. I'll pass on V for a year or so and get the Ultra or Super version instead. I know it'll become available as DLC but I'd rather play the completed game.

  • The entire scroll-down to see players is stupid, never has this setup been available in previous SF's.
You were always able to see all players at once.

  • It's not too bad u just gotta get used to it
I'm a player that skipped sfiv.. bought it but didn't play…
I was very into the old sf series especially sf iii 3rd strike
Choose to play ryu as he is the only one that can parry
IMO I think sf3 is the best outta the series if only they brought it to ps4 not just ps3…
But yeah finding a match in sfv is hard…trying right now…

    • All previous SFs are better than V.

Hell even SF Alpha and Alpha 2 were better and they introduced some whacky players from Final Fight!

What they've done in SF V is try and milk our as much money as possible:

      A.) Deliver a half-baked game
B.) Keep the customers on their toes with an "Arcade" release in June
C.) Promise to release more Characters (which were previously available) like Guile, Sagat, Balrog later
D.) Charge you more via DLC in terms of Costumes, Characters, and so on.

That's just the way the industry is going and unfortunately Capcom have fully embraced it. I tend to just not support this though and wait for the full release.

    • I think SF 4 came as close to a good enough reboot of the best selling series.

However, they stuffed around and introduced way too many useless characters with duplicate moves.

      E.g Balrog and Dudley

      • IMHO, SFV is very fresh and rather good, after I played heaps of SFIV and eventually got bored of it. The systems are all improved in small but significant ways. V skills and V triggers are very fresh, and better than the ultra combo system of SFIV. Then there are a few balance things like how basic attacks do a bit more damage and special moves are easier to input, the stun meter is visible, the stages are a bit interactive, etc. And the cast of characters, new and old, is fresh, bringing back some greats from Street Fighter Alpha like Karin and Birdie, remixing all the moves like with Nash, and adding new interesting characters like my favourite, Rashid, and the super-unique F.A.N.G. and Necalli. I like SFV a lot, and look forward to the monthly updates which improve it each time and add new characters (which have so far been free).

  • I've never played any Street Fighter, but I always get a bizarre sense of self-satisfaction whenever a big new release is garbage. Luckily enough, that seems to be 2 in 3 these days.
