Recommendation on Dashcam Installation in Sydney

Want to get a professional to install dashcam to front and back with backup battery for continuous recording when parked.

Did anyone do it and/or can make recommndation where/how much can get it done. Which model?

Currently using self installed el cheapo from GB deal here.

Can post or pm me please. Thanks.

Why do you want a 'professional' install?

Dashcams cheap or expensive are simple to install, just mount and plug in.

I'm guessing you want a professional install to hide the wires, but all you need to do is tuck the wires under the roof lining and plastic trim with your fingers.

For recording while parked, make sure the camera has a parking mode, and you will need to power the camera from the fuse box via a power management device.
For your information, this simply cuts power to the camera once the voltage on your car battery drops to a certain threshold.

    • Reasons -
      1. don't like the wire around the car frame.
      2. power to the 12v charger. On the way to the gear stick (transmission). Get knocked sometimes so want to ensure the recording works.
      3. think it is hard to wire the back camera, esp far to the power point.
      4. time vs car expense claimable.

      Thanks.

I have 3 dashcams on my car.
One pointing forward, second pointing to the right, and one at the rear.
Forward and right facing cameras are powered by plugging into car charger.
Rear camera is connected to the fuse box.

    Addressing your four points:

    1. None of the cables are in my car are visible except for the bits leading up to the roof lining. You can tuck the wires under the roof lining, plastic trim, and rubber seals.
You don't need any special tools, I just tucked it with my fingers.

    2. Simply rubber band the excess wires in neat bundles.

    3. Depends what car you have. I have a rear camera on a Ford station wagon and I did require a 1.5m extension cable, bought for $5 from ebay.

    4. You don't save money by paying something which is unnecessary and justifying it with tax deductions.

Probably help if you say what area you live in. These guys are in Blacktown and offer two different systems.

  • Came across this thread as well. I live in Sydney and I am not too keen on pulling apart my Prado in order to get the cam installed. I picked up the Viofo from here with the hard wire connection. So I want to get a nice job done of it connecting back to the car fuse box.

Any suggestions would be appreciated on who would install a pre-purchased DashCam.

    • I wired one of these up in Holden colorado.. surprisingly easy to do yourself. not much effort at all.
