$8 struck me as being a pretty low price to pay for a wired Xbox controller, or am I missing something here?

what adapter isnt it usb?
I think you are mistaking this for a wireless controller? The wired controllers don't need an adapter to use on a PC as they use standard USB plugs.
yep, my mistake.
Cheapo ones have shitty drivers, I got one and it used to crash my PC every couple of hours even when not in use.
The catch is that it's very hard to find in-stores. That, and general wear-and-tear may be present.
Aside from that, it's a great bargain!
Luckily the 360 controllers are extremely easy to refurbish.
Only 4 stores have stock in Australia according to their online thing (likely more stock actually in stores, but it's going to be hard to find)
To be more specific…
QLD
EB Games CairnsNSW
EB Games ChatswoodACT
EB Games Woden PlazaVIC
EB Games Frankston TownCairns!! SOLD . finally we 'have' something
Put in a post code, it shows more
I scored one way back when they were having half price promotion on already discounted second hand goods. I know that this is pretty much ymmv but the one I've gotten from eb games was in a reasonable condition.
That said it'd be hard to find one. I tried 4 stores around my area and I only could find one when I scored mine.
Just bought a last one from Woden plaza
spot any doritos residues?
The 360 pads have a very finite shelf life. I went through about 5 of them. A mate used to change them every year as the difference was so noticeable. I haven't had my xbox one pad long enough to see if the newer design is any better.
Speak for yourself, sounds like you don't treat your stuff all that well. Mine's been going solid for like over 2 years, and has survived multiple mods, cans of spraypaint, rebuilds, etc.

If you've needed to rebuild it numerous times in just 2 years, then it sounds like it's not lasting very well at all.
Or I've rebuilt it in new chassis, and changed out the buttons for fun.
If you've replaced the parts "for fun" so many times over 2 years, then how do you know how long the controller would have actually lasted?
@llama: The electrical components have absolutely nothing to do with the chassis, so… Yep. The whole time I've had it.
I've been using mine on my PC for 6 years now. No issues with it at all.
Controllers are one thing I wouldn't buy 2nd hand…
Spermatophobia?
Pads are easy to clean (and the wired controllers are just philips head rather than t8), it's the rubber coating on the sticks that breaks away. I found the replacement sticks on deal extreme were just slightly smaller in their circumference which was just a minor annoyance because at the same time I started using rubber thumb grips to try to protect the sticks. On my controllers where the original sticks were intact the rubber grips wouldn't move around at all, but on the replacement sticks the rubber grips would rotate way too easily.
May pull 1 apart to wireup my arcade buttons n joystick
Fix it up with a brand new shell + button set in pretty much any colour you like (about $6 - $10 on eBay) and you've got yourself a brand new, custom xbox remote for under $20. I have done this on 3 wireless remotes, it's pretty easy. Tricky part is getting the sync button back in, not an issue with a wired remote.
PS:you need a certain screwdriver about $3, sometimes included with the button + shell set
Just checked which stores have in Melbourne.
Looks like CBD has 1/1, Airport West 1/1 and I just ordered the one from Melton via Click&Collect.I always wanted to do this with my controller but never had the courage to. Can you recommend any specific shell/buttons that are of decent quality?
There seems to be a never ending supply of them on eBay.
Most are from China, I have had a custom shell on my remote, and two others for about 3 years, no stronger or weaker than original.
I ordered the remote, apparently the store didnt have it so I am getting a refund?
They should have just sold them off in the stores rather than advertise it online.
Nope, you're not missing anything. It's an 11 year old WIRED second hand controller for a last gen console..
I was looking specifically for a wired controller to use with PC. For a lot of pc games an Xbox controller is the only option.
Most gumtree sellers wanted 15 or 20 dollars for theirs, I much prefer being able to order from a shop.
Xbone and PS4 consoles are also old generation technology, so what's your point?
These work for Xbox One gaming on Windows 10.
Thank you, needed another wired one because am sick of buying more batteries. (The kids tossed the eneloops, grrr)

Theres not many stores with stock.
I ordered from a store with stock, but then I got a message saying that they couldn't find the item and will give me a refund.
Same. I tried another store and they found one for me. It was actually an Afterglow controller I received, which I guess is a bonus.
or am I missing something here?
What happened to the joke about smelly water?
I was thinking that too.
Not sufficiently G rated I guess.
Got one from EBgames roseland NSW. Asked the guy in charge and he give me from the stock inside because not shown in store. I don't know how many he had there. It worked for my laptop with windows 10. Thanks Ozbargain
Good controller.
- no health dangers from wi-fi/bluetooth microwaves
- no need to replace batteries
Though personally I'd rather get mine new. They are not that expensive.
•no health dangers from wi-fi/bluetooth microwaves
What about the eddy currents coming off the USB Cable?
Health dangers = What a stupid comment ROFL
•no need to replace batteries
Of course. No need to change batteries on a wired telephone either, but that doesn't mean that they are better than a cordless phone.
Most people use rechargeable batteries in wireless X-Box controllers, so they don't need to "replace batteries" anyway.

I know, man! Microwaves are all sunshine & flowers. There is no possible chance of health risks from constant exposure to microwaves. That Barrie Trower is a nutjob. What makes him qualified to speak on such matters?
Of course. No need to change batteries on a wired telephone either, but that doesn't mean that they are better than a cordless phone.
All I said was: "no need to replace batteries" but feel free to give me your opinion on what you think is better or worse in your best argumentative fashion.

You seem to 'know' what most people do. I can't speak for them. I use AA rechargeables. These need replacing with a freshly-charged set.
Woo, got mine from Point Cook. It's in pretty good nick and works well (so far).
Thanks OP!
No worries.
Got two for $12 a few weeks ago with the bogof deal.
Bought and payed for one online for pickup (one instock).
Dunno why, but when I rocked up to collect, they gave me a brand new wired black controller!
Did I win the internets for today?
I'd say yes. Well done.
WINNAR!!
My boyfriend got the same one. He loves it.
Decent price. Buy the adapter for a dollar on ebay and use it on your pc if that's your thing
