As with all new upcoming phones there are always a lot of rumours and fake "leaks". It's going to be unvelied on the 24th of Feb and there will be 2 versions. A 4GB/64GB version with a 26MP camera and 3GB/32GB version with a 16MP camera.

    Some of the rumoured specs:

    • MIUI 7 based on Marshmallow
    • Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 CPU
    • 4GB or 3GB RAM
    • 32GB or 64GB Storage
    • 5.2" 2.5D Glass IPS Screen
    • 16 or 26MP rear, 4MP front camera
    • Type C port
    • Quick Charge 3.0
    • MicroSD & NFC

We won't know for sure how much of this is true until Xiaomi release it. Unfortunately my friend at the company won't budge either :(

    • MicroSD & NFC

Removable storage? Hhmmm interesting — Considering the stance that Hugo Barra has on SD cards I'm surprised their new flagship comes with one.

      • Looks like it isn't true afterall. Xiaomi have said that the leaked slides that mentioned it are fake.

If only these phones didn't ship with spyware I would be interested.

If you have sensitive information stored on your phone, don't want this one!

Xiaomi phones don't ship with spyware — if you bought them directly from Xiaomi. It's when the middle-men and resellers are involved, that the non-official ROMS get cooked and loaded onto the phone.

Xiaomi would never have intended to have advertising software on their MIUI OS. But I'm fairly certain that Xiaomi does collect quite a bit of user data, if you use and activate Mi Cloud and MIUI framework

Providing Mi Cloud and other MIUI services.

Information (device or SIM card-related information including IMEI number, IMSI number, phone number, device ID, device operating system, MAC Address, device type, system and performance information and location information including mobile country code, mobile network code, location area code and cell identity) is collected for activating MIUI services, e.g. Mi Cloud, call log sync, SMS sync, Find Device, for the purposes of user authentication and activation of the services.

….but then again, Google is also collecting your data. So is Microsoft. So is Apple. I could go on and on, but if you're using a smartphone, tablet and a PC, you should be prepared to share your data, whether you like it or not. All big IT organisations are data hungry and are constantly collecting data about users so that they can produce better services and one-up their competitors.

    • flash rom ,will no spyware.

  • I wonder if I should get it or get samsung galaxy s7. I dont know about Xiaomi phones.

    • You can buy one for a try

  • Depending on the announcement on Feb 24 (?) I'm hoping to have found my new phone.

I'm interested in the Mi5 "Plus" for the bigger screen size. Coming from a Samsung Note 3 so I want 5.5 - 5.7" screen size (am too clumsy with the smaller phones).

    I don't want another Samsung.

Any guesses on price? The Note PRO was ~$530 AUD so it'll have to be higher than that. Hoping it's not too far over $600… What do you guys think? Is that realistic? :)

    • nope ,after 24th ,will know it.

  • Just want to know where to buy one and what LTE bands it will support.

    • Network frequency
      FDD-LTE:B1/B3/B7
      TDD-LTE:B38/B39/B40/B41
      TD-SCDMA:band 34 / 39
      WCDMA:band 1 / 2 / 5 / 8
      CDMA 2000:band BC0 / BC1
      GSM:band 2 / 3 / 5 / 8
      CDMA 1X:BC0 / BC1

      • Not sure why you linked to two searches that don't answer my question…

Where did you get this list of bands from? The only place I've seen the bands listed were speculative from place-holder shop websites that were inaccurate.

        • The link have shops in it ,you can buy Mi5 in these shop.

    • thanks.

      • Does anyone know if the Mi5 "plus" has eventuated?

I want the 5.7" screen, otherwise will have to buy a lower spec Oppo R7s or Huawei G8 (5.5")

  • And here is what we all needed to know…

    http://en.miui.com/thread-231030-1-1.html

    FDD-LTE bands 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 7 / 8 / 12 / 13 / 17 / 18 / 19 / 20 / 25 / 26 / 27 / 28 / 29 (uncertain)
    TDD-LTE bands 38 / 39 / 40 / 41

Not sure what they mean by "(uncertain)" so maybe this means nothing…

  • ~450$AUD is G4 range territory, and doubtful radio spec, and no MicroSD.

My Oneplus one/2014/ holds up next to this ( 90%).

  • impossible to find a good deal on this yet… all the middlemen tacking on like an extra $150-200.. the wait continues..

    • very few Mi5 in the market now, price is very expensive.
