Purposely Poor Parking

On my street there are only a few spots for parking, every now and then the same car always parks poorly (taking up 2 spots or 1.5 spots) so that they can park their 2nd car when it arrives later on in the night. Is there anything I can do about this? Contact the council or anything to give them a fine?

Cheers.

    Let their tyres down.

      Option 1
Let down tires when there's one car. This will inconvenience the 2nd car and force it to stay on the road until the parked car is able to move

      Option 2
Let down 2 tires of each car once parked. This will hopefully make the cars undriviable as one spare tire won't get the car going.. Also neither car can take a deflated tire to the servo for re-inflation to help the other.

If you do let down 2 tires make sure they are opposite sides of the car so they need to move the jack from side to side for maximum inconvenience.

      • Why should the first response be to vandalise?
This is how the feeling of a 'bad neighbourhood' is created.

Also a growing number of people have dashcams with parking mode and some are quite discreet.

Difficulty finding a parking spot won't simply go away if this guy decides not to park there after you vandalise the car. Someone else will always take the spot.

Unfortunately, this is a common issue if you live in urban areas.

A bit far fetched but a solution may be to get a small car like a yaris or smart car so you can squeeze into any small space. You could probably park 2 smart cars in front and behind him.

  • People in my area literally take away peoples licence plates if you park outside their house. You could go with the same option. Or you could contact the police and get them to casually contact the owner.

Council. Cops will laugh at you (and rightfully so)

      • I agree. Make a big show of taking photos of the car taking up multiple slots and then leave a note on the car telling them you are contacting the council.

    Get a bullbar..
or half a dozen mates around and shift it to the middle of the road then call the police.

  • Cover the whole car with post-it notes, along with a complimentary drawing or message.

op, are there parking lines where they/you want park?

Leave a kindly worded note explaining that parking is seldom available in the area and have seen the car regularly take parking space enough for two cars.

Kindly ask the driver to be considerate of other road users, as public parking spots are shared areas for all members of the community.

Sign off with "<Your street name> Community Group" to make it sound like its a big group of people.

    Have 5-10 signatures sign off.

  • what about cars on the street that are damaged or write-offs and the owner/driver just leaves it on the street taking up much sought after parking space, especially on weekends when people come to the area for weekend shopping? I've seen cars that are pretty much abandoned in the same spot for months or years even, and when you try to get something done about it, like get it towed away, they told me it's a legal thing and nothing can be done - don't even know if the police can put out a notice to the owner? what's worse is when there's a car with no number plates left on the road/street. seems like police do drive by without noticing it?? is it just me who notices these things?

That is an issue for your local council, not the police. If you report an abandoned, unregistered vehicle, the council will try to find the owner. If no owner claims the vehicle, the council will remove it.

      • so the car i've seen without a number plate there on the roadside, it's been there for yonks and no-one could even be bothered to report it to the council? anyways, council 'rangers' are so quick to fine people for parking in a spot that says 1/2 hour parking only but when it comes to an abandoned car, they either a) turn a blind eye to it and hope owner does something or b) just couldn't give a rats about it unless some decent citizen actually spends time to report it.

That's the council for you - it's all about revenue raising. no concern for people's welfare or the environment that's what I'll say!

        • So did you report it? Or are you waiting for someone else? If the car or trailer is legally registered and legally parked they can't do anything, if it isn't registered (no plates is a giveaway) then it can be removed

Ask the council to paint parking lines. Then when he parks over two spaces call the council to come and fine him

Or buying a spray paint to spray some lines?

  • Buy a bomb park it in of the spots for life.
