Advice: Differences in two recent glasses prescriptions.

Greetings,

Background:
Specsaver's and Costco's Prescriptions I received, have separate Axis and cylinder values. Axis and Cylinder values for Specsavers is 145(L), 20(R) and -1.50(L) and -1.25(R). While, prescription values for Costco are 145(L), 27(R) and -1.25(L), -1.00(R).

Both tests were performed one week apart with Specsavers on the 11th and Costco on the 19th.

Question:
How should I proceed with the different scripts values when ordering glasses online?

Cheers.

Part of the problem is it comes down to how you responded on the day of the test. Your result differences can included variation for slight physiogical and phsycological variables.

You can either be scientific about this and go back for another test and take the result in the middle or go back to your old script and use the new one that is closest to it if you are concerned about too big a jump.

For my last test a 0.25 change in Cyl is was the only significant difference from my previosu script. Whenever I go back to my old script it takes some getting used to.

Why did you have 2 tests done anyway?

    • spot on re response but thebthe test is supposed to be made less objective. budget = new grads.

slight difference only anyway but off axis so how the frame sits on your face may be important. go for the smaller script if in doubt so less likely to get headache with a trade off of crisp. ask your clinician.
why 2 tests? - want to know too.

      • "why 2 tests?"

Costco optometrist request an eye test, and is required to buy costco contacts.

Regardless I get free trail lenses. So not a complete loss.

Was the test at Costco for contacts? Your glasses prescription and contacts prescription will be different.

        • @froggym:

Both are eyeglass prescriptions. Costco also requires an eye exam for you to buy their prescription glasses.

      • …the text is supposed to be made less subjective [sic] ie objective

  • Prescriptions are determined by subjective responses, you will always get a different result.

If there's no change in prescription from previous, stick to an old prescription you are comfortable with.

If there is a significant change (out you don't know) then just choose one prescription or do a average.

Glasses have tolerances when they are made up as well, just because you order an axis of 27 that doesn't mean you'll get a pair of glasses with an axis of 27. The difference between 27 and 20 is not huge however (for that prescription)
